I see the new Scarface remake is to be written by David Ayer, the writer behind Training Day and Street Kings. The 30s version was based around an Italian american rising up to become the boss of the Chicago underworld. The 80s version focused around the story of a Cuban rising up to rule the Miami underworld. Is has been said that they want to bring the remake up to date with the 21st century. Does that mean we'll see a similar story with an African american rising up to rule the underworld?
Never seen the 30's version, but the Pacino version of the 80's is one of the most overated movies ever.
I seen a film not that long ago were such a situation occured. I think Denziel Washington was in it. I'm not a film buff.
And, as for Pacino, when he's on his game he deserves his rep, but at other times he has a propensity for overacting.
American Gangster Based on a true story. No a bad movie. Russell Crowe was in it to as the copper I seem to remember.
Al Cappucino is a crap actor who plays exactly the same role in every film he is in. Just like Sean Connery.
Because its considered a safe bet money wise, just like making comics into films. Fans of the comics will always go and see the film. Fans of the original film being remade will go and see the new version.
