Bristol Rovers say they have been contacted by young professional footballers about trials they have been offered by the club.
Fraudsters have been impersonating agents offering trials to young players on Instagram and Whatsapp and asking for payment in advance to cover accommodation.
Once the money is paid they hear no more. Rovers have said that they would never ask for payment from any trialist and all invitations for trials would be made by the club and not through third parties

Unfortunately scammers prey on peoples' gullibility and naivety. Some older folk may be excused for falling for scams like this, but for youngsters who are generally more tech-savvy and have had online safety drummed into them in school etc, it's a bit daft to send money to someone you've never met making promises that you haven't bothered to substantiate and do due diligence on.
