Last year I posted a link to a scale of the universe website...for those who saw it, it has been updated and for those that did not see it - you really must, it's awesome.

Use the scroll bar to zoom in/out or if your mouse has a wheel, use that. The scroll bar is a bit better imo <ok>

    Enjoy

Could all of that happened by accident?

That is very interesting. Thanks for putting it up. I had no idea Halley's Comet was as large as Everest or that the USA is as large as some moons.

An ice cube that size would keep a very decent measure of single malt nice and cold for a wee while! Given that it operates in virtually absolute zero I don't see why a comet would melt.

Fantastic - thanks Thai! So much to boggle the mind!

The fact that the Orion nebula, which you can faintly see kind of star-size below orion's belt (middle of the sword), is ~24 light years across is difficult to get my head around....but it is all like that really. Great stuff!

On a related note, did anyone see the piece on the huge cloud of (an) alcohol found in space? Just a shame it's the wrong alcohol really!

If I'm being pedantic, space is about -80 degrees whilst absolute zero I think is about -273, but it won't be melting anytime soon.

Fascinating stuff Thai. I love the way there are little asides put in like... total human height, a light year and the distance the Earth has travelled!

Am definately finding a use for that in the classroom. <ok>
