We replaced Wenger with a young, up and coming manager like Brendan Rodgers, what would you think?

Don't want O'neill, Rodgers is still unproven, and the thought of Guardiola makes me sick. Hiddink is my numero uno.

He could be a lot worse. Not saying he will be, but there is mathematically a lot more room for us to go down than up.

You do as the Romans do. Unfortunately Spain has a footballing culture of diving. If he ever came to manage Arsenal, it wouldn't be the issue.

    1. Guardiola
    2. Hiddink
    3. Boas

You'd want Villa Boas? Interesting. Any particular reason why? Based purely on Portugal he's done wonders but with an expensive squad at his disposal I've been unimpressed so far. Saying that, I think Arsenal are set up better for his 'brand' of football more than Chelsea.

I'm afraid this sums up some of the arsenal fans in my opinion, this time last year people were claiming we should bring in owen coyle because he had Bolton playing attractive football, and look at him now. Rodges has half a season of top flight football under his belt, and you really think he is good enough for our club?

In a year's time he will be forgotten about when they are in the relegation zone, and someone else will be flavour of the month. I really think people need to be realistic, if wenger did leave I would want someone like hiddink

When Wenger does leave there is no doubt in my mind that he will be replaced by a European coach.
You make a good point about Rodgers though,a couple of years ago the media were singing the praises of the perma tanned Hull manager(I've forgotten his ****ing name)

    Wenger leaving would be terrible.

However what about Moyes? He is class. Also (despite Boltons poor form) Coyle is pretty good.

I still wonder why people think Wenger is a bad tactician. Everybody admits we have a terrible injury record. Most people here think the squad "isn't good enough". If he is so bad at tactics as well, why do we finish as high up as we do?

I realize that everyboy thinks Wenger is the spawn of Satan right now, but its this kind of hyperbole that makes the Wenger out case much weaker.

To be honest I think the whole Wenger not being a good tactician thing is a bit exaggerated, and a bit misunderstood too. Some people like Jayram believe that we should adapt our team to combat the opposition but it seems to be an important part of his philosophy that the team only concentrate upon what they do. This allows them to play with much greater confidence I feel but on the other hand it can result in us being naive and against other top sides it shows (like how when we play man utd and chelsea their fullbacks usually win the match for them because we do not bother to pin them back/track them properly). So basically you have to take the good with the bad. Problem is we are not playing that great as a team and we are losing the big games which means Wenger's approach seems a bit rubbish at the moment.

I always remember a line in one of my favorite movies, "A Few Good Men", where Tom Cruise says a murder trial is about finding someone to blame for the death.

I think football fans are a bit the same. Arsenal a losing and they have to find someone to blame. Even though they can't exactly figure out why, a lot of fans think pinning the blame on Wenger. They don't think changing the ownership is likely going to happen, you can only allocate so much blame to one or two players, and so Wenger is the best candidate. Pinning it on him is not easy, but they don't have a lot of options. He is blamed for just about everything at present, bad tactics, not buying players, buying the wrong players, the injury crisis, and being mentally unstable.

I'm not going to tell you that he has done everything right, and I don't think he would either, but I don't think there are many managers that would have made a significant difference. When we start debating why he didn't sign better 3rd choice full backs, or why he didn't sign De Rossi or Villa, when we have RVP, like someone asked in another thread, it all gets a little silly.

The case against the accused just doesn't hold up in court, I'm afraid.
