    Guys & Girls

I know this is not Swans related but one reason we are called Jacks is because the people of Swansea were renowned for being excellent seamen for many many years.

You may have seen the news tonight that Swansea Coastguard Station at Mumbles has ben condemed to closure! They Co-ordinate all Search and Rescue operations in the Bristol Channel from the Devon/Cornwall border up to Gloucester City centre and all the way along to the River Towy in Carmarthen.

Please help to support the campaign which has been started on Facebook, the intention is to start a petition which will be handed into parliment in about 12 weeks.

Swansea Coastguard Maritime Rescue Co-ordination Centre is the busiest in Wales and second busiest for Search and Rescue in the whole of the UK! They are the leaders in policy and Coastguard HQ Staff go to SWANSEA for experience!

Quite Frankly they are the TOP of the COASTGUARD PREMIER LEAGUE and deserve our support! Please support this thread by following it for instructions on how to sign the petition starting soon! Please also friend request Save Swansea Coastguard on Facebook.

    Thanks

They get my support , this is just so shortsighted of the British government and I am for one think that lives are going to be put at risk for the sake of saving a few quid, the government is only to happy to bail out the banks for hundreds of billions but refuse to save our coastguards , bloody politicians who don't live near the coast deciding that some stations are not needed! Idiots !

It's particularly stupid because you need a team in position somewhere that covers all the Bristol channel, as mentioned, but that team needs precise local information given tidal ranges and other concerns. From what I've seen they've tried to close a few others that have since been saved, maybe they're trying to find one that will roll over quietly?

Two friends currently work in that coastguard station, and a further three used to work there. It is such a busy station, and as has been mentioned they entertain groups regularly to train them up, such is their expertise. It would be ludicrous to close it, but it wouldn't be the first time a decision was made on finances regardless of the impact. Mining anyone?

Well do I remember the mining and the strikes, the fact that we were donating food to our neighbours because they had nothing is still fresh in my memory.

Still in regards to this, it's not that I would rather Milford to close I don't want any of them to close at all they have a role to play in their respective communities and the saving of £7.5m is peanuts in comparison to even the consulting fees in regards to the banks, honestly how they can cut funding that saves so many lives is astounding.

Also can I just say along the same lines , how the air ambulances and RNLI are charities and not funded from the government is beyond comprehension , I don't see this in other parts of the world!
