Decrease duty on drink and allow pubs to have an indoor smoking section.

They could try not charging £13.50 for three pints.I was in South Wales recently and it was two quid.Went to the Great Wen last week and it was 125% dearer.

Allowing blacks in would go a long way towards re-establishing the pub scene
Every pub having it's own bookie at a table to take bets during football (and other sports) would be good

This <ok>

Anyway, when were they banned from pubs? Why did it happen? What's the best course of action to allow them back in, without it descending in to 4-day long riots?

High taxes has a lot to do it with it - the British Government use the excuse of saving us from ourselves, but actually they just want the revenue. In Norway they don't actually need the tax revenue, but they are going full steam Socialist trying to get their high levels of alcoholism down by taxing the baws out of it. I've a Norwegian friend who's da became a widower a few years back - she was telling me his social life used to revolve around the pub after her maw died, but with tax increases it got to the point where it was costing €9 a pint - so now her da tends to drink in the house by himself because he can't afford the pub. So in trying to fix people they end up just making them more miserable.

We need to talk about this ER - the likes of minimum pricing in Scotland is a slippery slope, it will end up the like plastic bag tax and smoking bans in Ireland where every other country in the world soon follows - and it won't be 50p a unit to stop the cider drinking bums in 20 years time either, it will affect the Middle Classes - and I'm a bit Middle Class these days <grr>

Soon we'll all be really healthy teetotallers, and utterly ****ing bored.

That and the smoking ban have definitely driven many people to stay indoors rather than go to the pub. I'm actually surprised at the number of people who stay in so they can smoke - stand outside FFS!

Aye, that and Cribbage and Darts.

We could start a thread about favourite past times.

Would be informative and lively.

20 years ago I'd say there were 15 pubs within a 2 mile radius of my house that had pool tables - now there's none.

I no longer know anybody whose hoose am allowed to smoke in. Bastards make me stand outside. My mammy relented and allows me to smoke in the kitchen. <grr>
