    Hello Chaps,
    now then....I have managed to place myself in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland.... 'on Business'.........at a time which fortuitously and completely.....ahem.... to my surprise...... coincides with our first game of the season tomorrow.....Marvelous scenes.

    As I haven't made it over to The Valley for nearly 2 seasons...I am, as you might understand......beside myself with excitement......which is a good trick if you've never tried it.

    Now....I need your help......I am attending on Saturday with assorted Brothers...and my Godson who is 9. A Godson who, I would submit, has been, to date, cruelly mislead and exposed, by his Father, to 'football' of a significantly inferior nature.....a team of chaps who play under the name of Brentford I believe....not heard of them myself but apparently they do exist. Clearly this is an extremely serious matter and a misdemeanour for which I shall, upon arrival, thrash his father within an inch of his wife.

    Furthermore, I am concerned that my Godson is in great danger of becoming erm....how shall I put this...well....shall we say......over-effeminate..yes.....that'll do. Now....please allow me to assure you that I am as liberally minded as any and I have a healthy respect for the....erm....over-effeminate......although...to steal a phrase...I was never confused myself.......no really.

    Thing is...I somehow picture myself in the future, down the pub with my Godson discussing his pursuit of girls........and well........not boys.....I mean....don't be offended.....I just want to be able to...you know....well...have some meaningful input......steady now.

    So.....to get....finally.. to the point....if anyone is still awake....in order to begin his re-education and his moulding, into the kind of adult I would wish him to be, I do need the love and support of the community.....and answers to the following;

    1) Pubs in and around into which I can take a 9 year old boy without having some Jobs-worth inadequate tell me it's against the law and 2) your advice as to which section of the ground would be most beneficial to his adult education and most likely to help leave an indelible mark of Charlton Athletic in his bosom...thus eradicating the memory of the previous cruelty he has had to endure.

    Thanks for your help everyone. End of long boring post!! :emoticon-0113-sleep:emoticon-0113-sleep:emoticon-0113-sleep;)

    North Upper or Lower will be eventful.
    As for pubs try The Pickwick on Woolwich Road. They have a decent size garden where some boys play fooball and it also has a dart board and pool table. It's about a 10/15 min stroll to the ground though.

    North upper H, J or I

    I think the Royal Oak, three minute walk from North Block has a beer garden and sometimes a Barbie (perhaps not good for your task) during early/late season.

    Got to be North Upper J block, that's where the drummer is as well as the best atmosphere. Only problem really is that for a young lad there is a lot of bad language up there. If that is a problem then perhaps the family stand which is located in the corner of the North and West so presumably, the atmosphere rings out to there.

    Not too sure about the best pubs, sorry. Although perhaps a greasy burger or hot dog may make him more in touch with his masculine side ;)

    I would suggest that if you want to save your godson from a life of boredom and mediocrity - take him to any other ground in the country other than the Valley.....I know of quite a nice South London club that's not too far away......(and no - I don't mean Palarse!) <cheers>

    Whilst I can see the benefits of taking him to Welling, the atmosphere isn't strong enough to make him fall in love with the club.

    I can see why he'd be lured across London, there's only one 'f' in Brentford after all, but as soon as he hears the Covered End Choir striking up on 'Valley Floyd Road' he'll be hooked, after all there's only one F in Valley Floyd Road as well.
