Stoke striker Kenwyne Jones is a shock £5million target for super-rich Saudi side Al Hilal.

The Riyadh outfit want Jones as a replacement for their top star Yousel Al-Arabi, who is on his way out of the club.

Jones joined the Potters from Sunderland 18 months ago for around £8m, but has been squeezed out of the side by summer signing Peter Crouch - although boss Tony Pulis is in no rush to lose him.

Al Hilal have made an official approach for Jones, and Stoke want to get their money back at least as the move has taken them by surprise and they have no obvious replacement lined up.

Jones signed a long-term contract at the Britannia, but the move could interest him as the salary in Saudi would be tax free.

When asked on his Twitter page whether Pulis would be tempted to sell him to Al Hilal the Mirror journo said:

If bid got bigger ... Maybe

Al Hilal say they will pay 5m. Stoke want more. They have another target or two. See how it plays out.

T.P. as Smit say's Tony P does not use twitter? I remember a while back he said. " I never have anything to do with that kind of thing" And, he also said " I don't like it if any of our player's our, but that's upto them"

Personally I would line up a Championship or even a sought after 1st division player?? And, take the five million for Jones.
P.S. does this club who want K.J. have any decent midfielders Sgt. <whistle>

Al-Hilal probably play better football than Stoke.

Thank you for your highly original comment, that really must have taxed your brain to arrive at a stunningly pithy and elegantly constructed sentence.

Sorry guys. I meant to put "The Mirror journo" when referring to the Twitter page. Those words were the words of the Mirror journalist not Pulis of course. That same journo also tweeted me this when I was at work:

Just heard Jones price. He won't be going anywhere. Sheesh.

STOKE chairman Peter Coates says the club is not looking to sell Kenwyne Jones, and has denied reports of a £5m offer for the striker from Saudi Arabia.

Former Asian club champions Al Hilal were reported to have made an official approach for 27-year-old Jones.
Stoke signed Jones, main picture, from Sunderland for £8m 17 months ago, but he has failed to command a regular starting place this season.

The Trinidad and Tobago international has only started two Premier League games since the arrival of £10m club-record signing Peter Crouch on August 31.

However, he remains a regular in other competitions having started 10 games in the Europa League and FA and Carling cups.

Staffordshire rivals Wolves are also being linked with the striker, but Tony Pulis would be reluctant to lose a player who has provided strength in depth for a squad trying to compete at home and abroad.

Coates says the club have not been approached about Jones.

He said: "You always get speculation at this time of year. Kenwyne Jones is a good player who hasn't been playing in every game, so I expect people are taking it from there.

"But he's a very good player and we want to keep our good players."

Jones, who has two-and-a-half years left on his contract, was City's joint-top scorer with Jon Walters on 12 goals last season, and has scored four this term.

Should Al Hilal press ahead with a formal bid, they could also offer Jones a tax-free salary.
