The 1:50 at Sandown look a very competitive race and it's difficult to rule any of the runners out with much confidence. However the one I'm going for today with a decent sized win bet is one right near the top of the market Third Wind 8/1. The jockey won with his only ride yesterday and this one is his only ride today. My Cheltenham starting pot goes down a bit if this one doesnt come in but I'm willing to take the gamble.
Morning A couple of each way bets at Kempton tonight 5.30-Wotamadam @ 14-1 [William Hill] 6.30-Bringthehousedown @ 12-1 [Bet Victor]
Going to Belle Vue dogs tonight as part of my birthday bash, looking forward to it. Couple of horse and football bets before. 1.50 Sandown One For Rosie 2.25 Sandown Speredek Have a good weekend fellas.
Morning all...off to Hereford today as our boy runs in the first race. Very exciting especially as he is favourite! That seems to be adding to the pre race excitement. Hereford 1.40pm Top Decision. The step up in trip should suit and I hope he is ridden prominently today as it's a sharp enough track. Trainer says he is in excellent form and seems confident. Some of our lot are very bullish and our 7lb claimer should help the cause further ( who rides him occasionally at yard). Danger is probably Apple Mack. Hope to be on at 4/1 later this morning. Hereford 3.25pm Good and Hardy . Some of our group know the owners of this horse and apparently he is well fancied to run a big race. Note of caution might want it softer but will get the low down on this one later at the course. Sandown 4.45pm The Kings Writ. He has been quietly progressive this season finishing outside the first three only once in his 6 completed starts and that came last time out when a very good fourth -despite the ground being lively enough for him- in a highly competitive Grade 3 handicap at Cheltenham. That is the strongest form on offer here. Will be backing Top Decision and Kings Writ later this morning on better prices with maybe one or two more bets at Hereford today. Good luck all!
Just for a bit of practice on big fields for next week: 1:50 Sandown - I think Russian Hawk has by far the strongest form in the field and should take all the beating here. His 2nd at Ascot reads really well and he has not been over-burdened by the handicapper. My only slight concern is the ground, which can get extremely testing on the Hurdle course at Sandown, so an e/w saver on Trixster who has already won a 3 mile novice Hurdle under a penalty on heavy ground at Chepstow.
Not sure what to make of the Imperial Cup Nass. I think Call me Lord has been targeted at this and has run pretty impressively at this track before. Ran well in the long walk hurdle too and has class. He would be the one for me but not having a bet in it...
The Imperial Cup market is absolutely rank in terms of value. There may be more plots than an Agatha Christie novel but with Call Me Lord running the rest of the handicap looks pretty compressed and I think it unlikely we’ve got a real blot (unless it is the beast of Nass from out of the handicap). I can’t have Lecoq at that price, the Nicholls horse doesn’t look like this has been a long-term plan. The Henderson pair will be on the premises and the Pipe horse had his form franked by Precious Cargo here yesterday. One who is very interesting is Kim Bailey’s First Flow, who looked potentially top notch as a novice but hasn’t been seen since pulling up in the supreme. Extra Mag to win and First Flow e/w but no money down so hope Benny can win for Nass
Call Me Lord (think it’s named after Barney) is an interesting horse and I very nearly had a saver on him, but weight stops trains and the ground yesterday looked very testing. He needs to put in a grade 1 performance here I think. The race is perfect for Benny, the pace looks strong and he should be able to travel in rear before being produced late by Paddy. He will walk the course and hopefully can provide maximum help from the saddle. I’m pretty confident of a big run, if he’s progressed from Cheltenham he can win from out of the handicap.
I’m with you Nass. Storm rising could run a big race after disappointing at Cheltenham. Monsieur lecoq looks interesting. That’s the tricast.
Just back the favourite lads! MONSIEUR LE COQ is a good thing in the imperial cup! Will love the ground, Chester Williams hasn’t ridden at this weight for a very long time which effectively means he’s only running off 6lbs higher than his last race and in terms of time in that last run the time was only about half a second slower than when Elixir Du NutZ won the tolworth!! And the form of that race is solid. I did like the Skelton horse and got on at 12/1 last nite before he was a NR this morning so will be interesting to see where he goes (I take it, it’s because of the ground) but have been looking at this race and just keep coming back to Monsieur LeCoq!!
Chester can’t do the weight today, he will be a couple of pounds wrong. That and it’s Chester surely means he will drift?
Ahh I didn’t know that tbf! Will be interesting to see how much overweight he will put up! But even so still a confident selection
From the sounds he would never been able to make the weight why jock him up?? I know he’s there son but some very talented claimers could take it !!
