Kempton 15.10 Re Beckford Folly Timeform comment. "not obviously much more to come" ATR comment. " is likely to have plenty more to offer. Charlie Appleby's colt should take another step forward" Someone isn't seeing this right
Haydock 15.35 seems to be the only race worth looking at and I can't see past Lazzat with 5/2 generally available
How about publish in the 1.50? Pulled out last time because of ground, when I had heard a whisper a lot was expected. It will be carrying my money today Ron and I might even do a cheeky double with yours
Today’s racing makes little appeal. I can scratch Ascot with the going reported Soft. Kalpana should win the September Stakes at Kempton and is odds on to do so. The Sirenia Stakes on the same card at 3.10 looks one to avoid as most of the field are thoroughly exposed and I do not like turf form on the kitty litter for either of the first two in the betting. So that leaves Haydock where it is officially Good but it would be no surprise if the heavens opened before racing starts as their meetings virtually always have the word ‘soft’ somewhere in the going. I picked Suite Francaise when it won a course and distance Listed race making all a month ago but I will be leaving the opening Group 3 Superior Mile alone as Joe Fanning might find it harder to fend off the older horses here and the unknown quantity of Karl Burke’s twice raced Zeus Olympios. The following Listed race for juveniles sees much vaunted Publish stepping up to a mile having skipped the Solario because of the ground. It appears that he won’t even be favourite as the morning line has George Boughey’s Bow Echo 5/4 to maintain his unbeaten record with a second success. The lottery that is the Haydock Sprint Cup contains several that owe me money but I do not think that any of them could be getting it back today. The French raider Lazzat is the clear form pick but he managed to get turned over in the Prix Maurice de Gheest last time and make no appeal at the available odds. While nobody is looking, George Scott has sent Command The Stars over to Craon for a Listed juvenile race (4.25). Tomorrow’s Arc Trials card featuring the Prix Du Moulin looks like being very informative (for once) with lots of runners from Ballydoyle...
Kalpana is fav (JF with some) for the Arc. If she is a worthy fav she should wwin doing handstands and 4/7 is looking extremely generous. If Giavellotto were to win, surely it wouldn't go fav for the Arc (not that it is entered at present)
Giavellotto won last year’s Yorkshire Cup (fourteen furlongs) and he has only ever run on soft ground once, when second in a handicap over fourteen furlongs as a three year old. Would the owners stump up the supplementary fee for a trip to Paris? He has run in Hong Kong (won the Hong Kong Vase) and Meydan (fifth in the Dubai Sheema Classic) but he was seven lengths third in the Coronation Cup when last seen.
Well he won alright, with Kalpana 2nd btn 1½l Before that he was 3rd, btn 7½L by Jan Brueghel Topsy turvy form. Doubt Kalpana is fav now for the Arc
That was a very taking performance from Bow Echo and he wouldn't be out of place in any of the top 2YO races this autumn. However the trainer is targeting the 2000 GNS and might put him away until spring.
I backed Bow Echo earlier in the week at 5/2 for today. Connections of Publish had been saying that they didn't really plan to run him at a mile this season but events went against them. They couldn't give him away in the betting and I think he ran well, looking a likely winner after making up plenty of ground. I couldn't have Bow Echo at 14/1 for the Guineas. He's a pony sized colt and I couldn't really rate the form too highly. You can understand connections being excited but this was only a Listed contest and was more or less a match on the betting. If Bow Echo were mine I would try to win a Group 1 with him this season, rather than wait for more backward types to emerge in the spring.
