I find the 12/1 about Marcel for the Guineas tomorrow quite tempting. Anyone would think RP trophy winners had a poor record in the race. There's been some money for him anyway, and going straight to the Guineas has always been the plan. Ground should suit, though the freezing ****ing cold may not.

It's here at last ! The flat season begins proper tomorrow, summer days at Ascot with not a farmer in sight and warm nights at Windsor, not to even mention the delights of places such as York, Goodwood and Epsom ( oh alright maybe not Epsom so much), but you get the picture. A very tricky card for punting tomorrow with either hot pots that cannot reasonably be opposed with any real confidence and tricky handicaps, but lets see what we can do, to begin with for me tomorrow I am going for........

    Newmarket
    2.00 Niceofyoutotellme 12-1 EW

This horse won the race two years ago and has a touch of class about him on his day, he has his fair share of weight which reflects this and may be vulnerable to an unexposed sort, but if there is nothing special lurking it will take a good un to beat him, watch for a final furlong sweep.

    4.55 Sky Kingdom 10-3
I think this is the Hagges horse for this year, the yard often seem to find one to take on the big boys and I think this fella could go places. I think he won well over course and distance last time out and looked as though he would also come on for the run so I think he could be impressive.

    5.30 Folkswood 9-4 in a place (15-8 generally)
This is the main bet for the day, travelled beautifully winning his maiden on the first day of August before being put away for the rest of the season, patience will pay off as this horse is handicapped to win this race , but this horse will not end up a handicapper long in my book, I expect the horse to win well tomorrow and then be put away for Royal Ascot.

Why is LIMINI not getting a novices allowance in the mares race?

Not very often that you go to the races with the opportunity to see at least three Classic winners on the same card.

The Jockey Club Stakes sees last year’s Irish Derby hero Jack Hobbs face off against last year’s St Leger heroine Simple Verse. The bookies have already decided that the former is where the money is going to go, so the race is a non-event from a betting point of view. From a notebook point of view it will be interesting to see how the others fare, especially Exosphere who could be another Stoute improver.

In the 2000 Guineas the market has been slewed towards Aidan O’Brien’s champion two-year-old for months and the defection of his principal betting rival makes Air Force Blue look a poor wager. The trainer already has his post race excuse rehearsed (if needed), “Listen, Rishi, there always had to be a concern that he showed so much speed last year that he would not finish the mile.” His main rivals all share his lack of proven race fitness, so I cannot find grounds for playing Buratino, Marcel or Massaat as only two of them can place if the favourite obliges. I am not sure that the easy ground is necessarily good news for the jolly as the others will surely try to stretch his stamina.

Back over five furlongs, will Sole Power show his form of old in the Palace House Stakes? I am prepared to oppose him and after disappointing over six at the end of last term, dropped back to five (over which he is unbeaten) I fancy WAADY to be straight enough first time up in a race that should definitely be run to suit him.

There are some fascinating unexposed contenders in the Newmarket Stakes, but the two that I fancied have both defected and whilst Cymric is the form horse, I think that Abdon or Sky Kingdom could be anything and will be worth watching in the market. If Gosden has had a good day, Cymric might end up short and be worth opposing.

From a betting point of view, Sunday does not look like a better prospect for those of us that only do racing certainties between Evens and 2/1.

Beefy- on an unrelated note -is your horse to follow that never ran the past year or two running in the Punchy bumper tomorrow?

    RATHNURE REBEL?

He's 8/1 and trained by Noel Meade.

I'm sure I recall that name being mentioned but apologies if not <cheers>

He is mate yes. STH has already spotted this and I've given him my views on him. I don't think he wins tomorrow for a few reasons. And I'm not putting yous away this time <laugh> But he's a very exciting horse for the future. You're obviously a keen reader of 'Beefys 5 to Follow'... You'll go far in life Toppy.
