Can anyone tell me if there is any draw bias on the 5 furlong straight turf track at Meydan. I can't seem to find any information for 5 furlong races. Was just looking through the form and noticed most of the high drawn horses are shorter odds, even if they don't have the best form
The Bill Turner horse in the Brocklesby and that will do for me. It's a sad day for me. The NH starts to take a back seat and the flat begins to take over.
Being drawn near the middle is probably ideal tho because they tend to race up the middle early, and if the jockeys do decide to race on one side you can do what you want from there. Just depends what the jockeys decide on the day, ive seen them racing far side, middle, near side, and they are usually spread across the track at the finish. Its as fair as it gets when it comes to 5f I think. Looking at this years race a lot of the right horses seem to be drawn high, Caspian Prince and Amber Sky are the speed, so I guess most will be going where ever Kirby and Moore go early, but it wouldnt put me off a low drawn horse if I fancied it.
KS: I don't entirely agree with MoG. I've no detailed records for UAE racing the way I have for the UK tracks, but what stuff I do have suggests a slight bias in favour of high numbers (stands side) over the 5f, but no real difference over 6f. Depending on how highly you rate Charlie Appleby's judgment, he's quoted by PA Sport today (Friday) as saying...."I was pleased with Ahtoug's draw. In sprints at Meydan I am always happier when my horses are drawn towards the stands side....." That said, my guess is that it's more important to be where the pace is than it is to be on one side or the other but, if I had a free choice for the horse I wanted to back, I'd always take high over 5f. And if you wanted to save yourself time and trouble, then backing the Hong Kong horses over sprint trips at Meydan seems a pretty successful recipe. MoG: yes, thank God. Friday nights, a form book and a crate of Old Speckled Hen. It doesn't get any better.
Same as bob, flat just doesnt have the same draw as the jumps does it.25 odd runner calvary charge hcapps, bookies delight, to many pointless races, ah well.i will be keeping eye on tommy stack runners this side of the pond over the next few weeks.always a trainer to side with at the start of the flat season.
Cheers guys for your thoughts on the draw bias, I fancied Sir Maximillian at 20/1. He is drawn 6, so maybe not the perfect draw, but I'm still gonna side with him as it isn't significant. Not sure why he's 20/1, when he beat a few of these LTO, over course and distance, and they are more fancied in the betting than he is
I slightly prefer the flat as it's a lot clearer what your betting on. Nothing worse than betting on a jumps race and the horse you've backed gets trapped going round the bends travelling 5 wide. This is why I would start using starting stalls on the jumps, as particularly in the big handicaps like at Cheltenham, your selections chances can completely go if your jockey doesn't bag a good position down on the rails. Either use stalls, or start limiting the number of runners in these races
In case any of you miss it Townend is over to ride Binocular's half brother for the lovely Rebecca in the Stratford bumper. The only surprise for me is that JP doesn't own it!
I know it's the 'start ' of the flat tomorrow --but having two sand meetings as well, somehow makes it feel a bit odd -bit like the end of the jumps next month and having three summer jumps fixtures next day.... We seem to have quantity of fixtures, but quality...........
Certificate @6/1 -3 10 Don --Roger Varian has his runners in good order -sure this will be ready to fire -
It's back at last.........I had the worst winter from a punting perspective I can remember. Let's see if we can get a good early start with the flat now. Doncaster 2.35 Astaire 3.10 King Tourus 4.20 King of Normandy I must admit I am not a fan of the Brocklsby as it encourages trainers to hard train a horse that is often not even two years old. If I owned a decent looking two year old I would ask the trainer to not even think of running him until May - June at the earliest.
Two at Kempton with two in the big races at doncaster I could not really give much reasoning behind my picks Mondialiste Buckstay Top Diktat Yeeoow
The lincoln meeting doesnt really interest me, proper flat starts at the Craven meeting, but I like the look of Zarwaan in the Lincoln, think he could be the class horse in the race and has a nice weight.
Will the Grey Gatsby prove Tht last season wasn't a fluke and surely CALIFORNIA CHROME should be an even money shot in the big one
