The Cambridgeshire is the usual affair in recent times with several horses in single figures when really it should be 10/1 the field. It will probably get worse as bookies shorten them up as the race approaches. The Ayr Gold Cup had an over-round of nearly 150% so getting early odds is necessary.

I've gone for 40/1 shot MR SWIVELL who has won three races for new trainer K P De Foy this season. He has only had one poor run and that was over 10F at Windsor when 8th.

Low numbers dominated last year with Liberty Lane winning from box 4. MR SWIVELL is in trap 2 and comes here after finishing second last time. I would rather have a fun bet at a price than one of the shorter ones. First five places each-way at 40/1 but you can get 7 places if willing to take 25/1

In the Cheveley Park I thought BEAUTIFY ran well last time and would be suited by the drop to 6F after her Moyglare effort over 7F. She is 4/1 and made more appeal than True Love who has had five starts already.

In the Royal Lodge DAYTONA looks appealing at 6/1. Beaten at odds-on in France last time where I thought he was a silly price dropping to 7F,I think he will enjoy being back at a mile. Bow Echo did me a favour last time but he's a small colt and he's a bit skinny this time.

The Middle Park is littered with a history of winners failing in the Guineas after being prominent in the betting. Last year's winner Shadow Of Light went on to win the Dewhurst but hasn't seemed to train on this season despite being third in the Guineas. Wise Approach is a warm order this year but I was a wee bit disappointed with him a couple of times. At a price I fancied HILITANY who has won his last two. He sluiced home last time albeit in lower company but he carried a 7 lb penalty and won by 5 and a half lengths. At 12/1 I thought him worth a punt as some of these sprints throw up funny results and you won't get rich backing Wise Approach unless you remortgage the house.

    Good luck.

There's an interesting little juvenile hurdle at Market Rasen today (16:35) with an odds-on favourite trying to give weight to a newcomer from the yard that won the race last year. The odds-on fav is Olly Murphy's Lord, who is 2 from 3 over hurdles and has only been beaten by probably the best juvenile hurdler we have seen so far this season, Joseph O'Brien's Dignam, on his debut back in July. He has won 2 subsequent juvenile hurdles and is now rated 121. The James Owen / Gredley Family combination took this last year with Liam Swagger who went on to finish 3rd in the Fred Winter off 124. This year they have entered Stardrop, who has a flat rating just 2lbs below that of Liam Swagger at this time last year.

With Lord currently 2/5 and Stardrop 5/2 I'll take a chance on the latter to continue connections excellent record in this type of race.

A "yellow silks" double with Bow Echo in the Royal Lodge.

Three juvenile conundrums to start the day at HQ, for different reasons.

The opening Royal Lodge Stakes (1.50) is a problem because of ‘note book’ horses. I cannot back all of them so which do I choose? It will almost certainly be the wrong one by 1.55 as the race is over.

I think I can definitely scratch the two outsiders. Lord Britain has won once in three starts on the kitty litter and looks completely out of his depth and Tailgunner Joe was well behind Humidity on debut in the Chesham and stone last behind Bow Echo last time. Ballydoyle is doubly represented, which suggests that neither of them is more strongly fancied than the other and it is hard to tell from the jockey bookings whether Tom Marquand is on the more fancied runner. The Wootton Bassett colt Daytona was beaten in a Group 3 race at Deauville having previously won a Listed race easily over a mile and should go well today. Frankel colt Action has not been seen in eight weeks since winning a Galway maiden from the front under today’s pilot. He has the obvious potential factor and it would seem reasonable to expect Wayne Lordan to try and make all. David Egan takes over on Frankel colt Ancient Egypt, easy winner of two small races under Rowan Scott; and he is another one with potential scope stepping up in grade. Bow Echo is rightly favourite today based on his two easy wins to date at this trip. He is surely in many note books, not just mine. The other two runners contested the Solario Stakes and finished third and fourth in a blanket finish with Humidity just in front of Pacific Avenue. There was a lot of scrimmaging in that race and Humidity was one of the ones that suffered the most whilst Pacific Avenue got to the front until the last couple of yards. The ground was soft that day. The extra furlong should be okay for both the Godolphin Dubawi colt and the Ulysses colt. Humidity made all in the Chesham and on debut and I have to wonder if James Doyle will want to lead on him, which could result in a contest for the lead with Action that might be to the detriment of both their chances. So of the note book horses I am siding with PACIFIC AVENUE to get the lead in the extra furlong and hold off his rivals.

The Cheveley Park Stakes (2.25) pits the ‘potential’ horses against the ones that have been around all season. Most of the ones with a lot of form in the book look exposed enough that they won’t be winning today. Anthelia won a soft ground Group 3 race last time to add to the big pot from the Super Sprint at Newbury but this looks much tougher. Golden Palace was behind in that Salisbury Group 3 but still needs more than her previous wins at Beverley and York. Orion’s Belt was second at Salisbury but her only win to date was at seven furlongs so she could also find the opposition a different class here. Fitzella won the Princess Margaret but was brushed aside by a good Andre Fabre filly in a Group 2 race at Deauville and that suggests that she will find one or two of the principals too strong today. Havana Anna has never won over six and followed a Naas Listed win by being touched off in a Group 3 at Longchamp, the winner having been sixth in the Norfolk Stakes. That makes her look short of the required grade here. Ballydoyle is again doubly represented and I think that True Love is not the one that I would want to be on. The Queen Mary winner won a four runner Group 2 at this trip before being turned over in the Phoenix Stakes at 1/4. With just three runs under her belt, Beautify has more potential based on her second in the Moyglare after making all in a Group 2 at this trip before that. What bothers me with her is that she is now dropping back in trip albeit a stiff finish to this six furlongs. The other two runners today contested the Lowther Stakes at York. American Queen went into that on the back of a 12 length debut win and there is obviously potential for her to improve again; however, the winner ROYAL FIXATION is also open to improve further and is unlucky not to be unbeaten having run into Venetian Sun on her second start.
