Cheers Heis, on 7/2 and with Skybet money back if he finishes 2nd or 3rd. Also fancy GANG WARFARE at 12's paying 5 places.

It's not the same is it, Northumberland Plate run on Tapeta for the first time! <doh> Consolation race is a bonus but wish that and main race was run on grass!

    Morning all!!

Not had a bet for a while but taken a stab at the Euro games today and gone for POLAND, CROATIA and WALES in an acca at just over 12/1. Also backed the same three in a 'Result and both teams to score' acca for a smaller stake.

Hope we are all well and I'm counting down the days until the 'proper' racing starts!!

Northumberland Plate is undoubtedly the most competitive race of the day, but I wonder if US Army Ranger would've reversed form with Harzand in Irish Derby if they reopposed? I doubt it as Harzand was only 60/40 to run at Epsom, and when both are fully fit Harzand will win again IMO.

Another weekend blighted by the British Summer... hope it dries up for the Eclipse next Saturday.

During the week, I was told three horses: Alicante Dawn won at Evens at Carlisle on Wednesday; Bowson Fred was second at 6/1 on the Tapeta at Newcastle last night; and the third one was Steve Rogers in the Northumberland Plate (was favourite ante post at the time). As I do not bet on artificial surfaces (my last bet at Newcastle was last year’s winner Quest For More) and I see no reason why the well beaten Chester Cup favourite should be backed on a different surface today, I am just passing it along.

With the ground Soft at HQ and Soft (Heavy patches) at Windsor, I will not be touching either card, although I fancy Baadi in the Windsor 3:15.

Over at Chester, where it is Good to Soft (Good places) and hopefully drying, I am going with an old veteran who has won there several times, won last time, it is the owner’s local track and he is drawn well – LEXI’S HERO. Fahey says nothing in his SportingLife column to put me off.

Over at The Curragh no doubt plenty will be attracted by the family double: Harzand in the Irish Derby and Hazmiyra in the 7:00 for Weld and Smullen. I see no reason why Idaho, Moonlight Magic or Port Douglas should get revenge on the Epsom winner unless something is amiss or the ground is too quick but at the prices my wallet will be in my pocket.

Well done Wales but am proud to be an Ulsterman tonight as we more than matched you during the 90minutes and the turnaround after the embarrassment of the Poland performance has been remarkable. Considering the limited pool of professional players we actually have to choose from, in the region of 50-60 I believe, some of whom get poached by our Republic neighbours our expectations haven't just been matched, they've been exceeded.

Well done boys, the team and supporters have been done themselves and the country very proud in France this summer <applause>
