Was very surprised to hear that Eagle Top would prefer better ground, being by Pivotal out of Gull Wing, the stamina-laden broodmare! Surely he wouldn't mind a bit of dig?
You would think so but maybe the fact he is an unknown quantity of soft ground he has only race on good and Gd/firm. His half sister Sariska won an oaks and Irish oals on good ground and beat the mighty midday on good to firm so may be the reason

The weather forecast for Ascot on Saturday is fine, although only about 20 degrees. The rain hit on Friday and I expect that Gosden will wait to see how much it dries out.
She's most definitely not in the same league as most of these group 1 horses but Madame Chiang would absolutely love soft ground tomorrow in the KG. If 8 line up, she would be of interest to me at 20/1.
surely it is absolute cobblers that Clever Cookie is even in the thinking for the King George. He is miles short of the standard and even soft ground can't bring him close enough IMO. Place at best.
Michael Bell has Nina Carberry over for the lady amateur riders race to do the steering aboard George Cinq. Is that a hint in itself, or has he booked her before for similar events anyone know?
I just can't desert Eagle Top tomorrow. Have to go with gut instinct because his sister, The Lark,hosed in on softish ground over a staying trip if I remember correctly. Have always wanted to see him have a crack in soft ground. He has still only raced 6 times and can improve. Only concern in the race is pace really- really you would think Romsdal should make it having run well in a Leger- he could stretch them out? Or will they crawl and remove some of the stamina doubt for Golden Horn?
Snow Sky made all the running at Royal Ascot in the Hardwicke, so he could try to do so again under the same jockey. If Golden Horn does take part, I do not think that stamina is his problem unless they go a suicidal pace. Gosden knows that he is a daisy cutter and does not want soft ground. If it dries up enough by race time they may let him take his chance; otherwise, Snow Sky is the one to beat.
With the ground softened by the rain on Friday, Ascot and Newmarket are no bets. In the opener at York (1:45), it is very hard to escape from Henry Candy’s Chain Of Daisies, who was backed down to favouritism at Sandown on Eclipse day. Whether folks think she is in the grips of the handicapper after that easy win may be reflected in the short odds available. In the York Stakes (2:55) there are at least three potential front-runners. The most significant of these is Sandown Listed race winner Tha’ir, although he won uncontested that day against just three rivals. It is hard to know why Tullius is persevering with ten furlongs after his complete no show in the Eclipse. Top-rated Custom Cut is going a furlong further than he has previously and there may be more grounds for optimism with him. French raider Prince Gibraltar has not seen a racecourse for nearly two months but Jean-Claude Rouget has not come this far just to see if the sun shines in Yorkshire. However, Sir Michael Stoute’s filly BRAGGING could be the one here, stepped back up to ten furlongs after a poor effort at Royal Ascot over a mile.
