1:43 race of the day. First time at a course since lockdown and hopeful of a solid first run of the season.

The tenth anniversary Champions Day and hardly a champion in sight... :emoticon-0101-sadsm

Surely what they should do is put the hurdles out on the hurdles course at Ascot and make it a little more of a challenge for Stradivarius. <laugh>

They really should drop the comical name. Before they created this fixture, the Champion Stakes was run on the same day as the Cesarewitch at Newmarket. The Queen Elizabeth II Stakes was at least run at Ascot but in September. They could not have ‘Champions Day’ in September when there was a chance of proper flat racing ground because of the proximity of the Irish Champion Stakes and the St Leger. The fast horses that want fast ground will go to the Breeders’ Cup or stand in their boxes.

In the same vain I suggested on another thread that Ascot and Kempton ought to swap meetings this weekend. Amazing that 2 racecourses in such close proximity can have such different going.

Hello all, two bets tomorrow for me at Ballinrobe, it's a card choc full of mediocrity and very tight knit races. Hopefully at least one of the two obliges.

Ciankyle 3/1 - 3.50. This race is full of out of form sorts and Ciankyle was going very well before coming down 2 out at Thurles, I've always found him a likeable sort and I feel he's reasonably treated to win this event. It's his third chase start, he is a nice travelling horse, the extra distance can hopefully allow him to lob up to the lead coming to the business end and all going well he will stay on best win.

All The Chimneys 13/2 - 4.25. Moderately consistent horse, ran a cracker and looked like his time was near again when chasing home the well fancied Jack Holiday last time out at Tippereary. He is usually tucked in close to the leaders but I can't see much wanting to take up the running here, which might result in a slow run race and I think if he travels as well as he did the last day he will take over after jumping the last flight.

Very easy in theory this game, good luck folks <ok>

Away from the glamour, there's interesting support for Hugo Palmer's Noman in the 6.00 at Wolverhampton under Callum Shepherd. In from 7's to as short as 11/4 over the course of this evening, there's clearly some confidence at the in-form yard that this fellow can build on the promise of his debut.

Looks like a favourites day at Ascot:

    Stradivarius
    Dream Of Dreams
    Wonderful Tonight
    Palace Pier
    Magical
    Raaeq

Looks straightforward although rarely works out that way

I also fancy Search For A Song to win the Long Distance Cup. He will be a cut above what Stradivarius has been beating most of his career and he's a very classy horse if he can hold himself together. 11/2 is a fair price about him today.

Ridiculous to say that there are no Champions in the races with Stradivarius, Palace Pier and Magical all turning up.
Champions win on any ground not just the artificially managed good going that seems to be the desire these days.
