I've never done a daily thread so thought I'd give it a go. Hope no one minds. The jumps season really stepping up a gear with a great looking card from Cheltenham and other cards from Uttoxeter, Lingfield, Wetherby, Wolverhampton and a good Irish jumps card at Punchestown. The Cheltenham meeting really starts to wet the appetite for March and my selections all run there. 12.40 Guitar Pete 8/1 each-way We've been told the Triumph hurdle winner runs in this, so I'm running for cover with an each way selection trained in Ireland by Dessie Hughes who doesn't waste his 'overseas' entries. I saw this fella muller a decent looking maiden at Down Royal a couple of weeks ago, from which the second has come out and won by 13 lengths, with a Mullins hotpot back in third. He'll do for me. 13.15 African Gold 7/4 Chaser in the making if ever I've seen one. Twiston Davies usually has his firing from the very start of the season so hoping this guy starts of what could be a very, very big novice season for him. Great looking contest with dangers all round but this one looked a chaser to me last year, today we'll see if the looks match up to the ability. 14.30 Champion Court 15/2 each-way Course specialist in a tricky, if slighty weaker than normal, looking PP. I'll chance this one. 16.05 Supreme Bailerina 5/2 Willie Mullins. Cheltenham bumper. Say no more. Good luck
A few for me tomorrow: CHELTENHAM 1.50 Alvarado 16/1 e/w 2.30 Ballynagour 10/1 (AP) & Astracad 25/1 e/w Best of luck all
On way back from US today so will miss the PPGC. Three horses for me Bradley Ballynagour Cross Kennon
Royal Irish Hussar at 6/5 seems too good to be true in the first. Won a very warm looking race last time with complete ease and one of these will have to be extremely smart to beat him
4.05 Cheltenham LEGACY GOLD 7-2 is already a listed winner and only giving four pounds away for three wins. There could be something decent lurking in the race but they will need to be very good to lower this ones colours in her final bumper.
Brough, I was rather hoping that there would be a "special" on tomorrows race ie, win this and the Triumph in March, sadly not! I don't know if you are aware but Henderson has a shocking record in tomorrows race. Really hope he puts that right tomorrow and wins in style!
In that first race at Cheltenham tomorrow I like the way Alan Kings mount Herod The Great 8/1 has gone about his business and at the prices will take him here. Stick is Hendo`s record poor in this race poor because he dose not send his Triumph horses here?
3.00 Cheltenham Cinevator e/w (NAP) - Caroline Keevil's 6YO Dr Massini gelding reverts back to the smaller obstacles here after pulling up in a handicap chase at Kempton last week. He was last seen over hurdles at Exeter at the end of April, winning a class 4 handicap over just shy of 3 miles off top weight and a rating of 120. Cinevator was then sent novice chasing at the end of August and proceeded to hose up in a small field where the 4/9 fav fell. He was allotted an absolutely ridiculous chase rating of 132 (to put this in perspective: the 2nd placed horse ris now rated 93!!!!). On handicap chase debut, Cinevator finished 88 lengths behind Pantxoa and was dropped 8lbs to 124, finishing 2nd at 50/1 in a large field at Wincanton. He then disappointed at Kempton and this has probably prompted the decision to go back over hurdles. He will relish every yard of the trip here and at 28/1 he is a knocking e/w bet.
15.00 Cheltenham- Araldur- 16/1 e/w Very useful chaser who won first time out last season in the mud at sandown, ran fairly well at Chepstow last time and looked like he need the run but this test of stamina is right up his street.
I'll also be sticking with Emma Lavelle's Timesremembered tomorrow - possibly a slightly stronger race than the Persian War but nothing he should be fearing in this field and he rates a very strong win bet for me. 5/2 is a very nice price for his chances
13.50 - Goulanes- 5/1 Should be well suited by the near three-and-a-half mile trip.He won over hurdles at this meeting 12 months ago, then followed up over fences with a very game performance at Wetherby next time when getting the better of the smart Super Duty. This his second-season could be very profitable and be one to follow in staying events in the months to come and this looks a good starting point. Plus will be doing my namesake - Woolcombe Folly @ 33/1 as well backed Champion Court in the PPGC AP- I just keep looking in to the race and cant help thinking WF can run a MASSIVE race and get placed!
My selections for Cheltenham tomorrow 12.40 Guitar pete 1.50 Bradley 2.30 Champion court 3.30 Creepy cheers.
I realise they'll have the pecking order sorted at Pond House but the other Pipe runner, Vilja, really catches my eye. Won a point by a distance and is by Bach, who has had some really nice NH types in the last few years - Frascati Park, Shoegazer and My Brother Sylvest amogst others.
Herod The Great was pretty impressive at Warwick beating a Von De Recke horse that the German thought was a shoo in and a really nice one of Longsdons. Very informative race this one tomorrow. Hendo has run some good sorts in it Bucks including Grandouet but has never nailed it, a couple of seconds!
Thrown some nice shorts at it then, Irish Hussar has certainly won both his races very easily. Should be a great race what with the Pipe and Nicholls horses who are unknown quantity's.
Have a look on the PPGC thread. Bucks is going to run naked down the high st if Finians Rainbow wins!
