I've been told one for the first at Cheltenham tomorrow, although also been told that it may run at Doncaster instead (not sure which race). It's Nelson River.
Back in the chilly isles this weekend so going tomorrow. A few notable absentees tomorrow which is a shame. I was rather looking forward to seeing Vinndication in the flesh.
7/1 with Bet365 at the moment for the 12.10 Cheltenham mate. It’s not entered at Doncaster. Thanks for sharing.
Not sure if I will make it to HQ tomorrow as the weather looks rank and I’m due to be left in charge of my young son. Not sure getting him frozen at Cheltenham will go down well!! That’s my excuse anyway. Juvenile hurdle - revolves around the French form of Fret D’estruval and Protektorat, and from reports that I’ve read.... the latter seems to be the better horse. We will wait and see. Novice Chase - fascinating heat and i would rather be with horses who’ve already shown an aptitude for fences rather than those with brilliant hurdle form. On form Jenkins is held by Le Breuil but I think both will struggle against Drovers Lane and The Russian Doyen. I’m a fan of Drovers Lane and I think he is open to lots more improvement but I do worry that he’s giving weight away and that is why I think The Russian Doyen might prove too good here. I also think running from the front will suit here and TRD probably will be doing just that. 2M Handicap chase - fascinating race in which I think the lack of full on pace will set it up for whoever takes the race on early and can dictate from the front. The two who are likeliest to do this are Ozzie The Oscar and Hells Kitchen. The second of the two mentioned was given a very considerate ride last time out and now I expect more vigorous efforts from the saddle.
Caspian - I’ve chickened out here as I’ve taken the 7 places with William Hill and backed Full Glass each way. I think he’s one of few in here who can improve past their marks and with the other ones being Rather Be (too short in market) and Mr Medic whose form looks better than I think it is. I think this race is going to be run at a furious pace and Full Glass might get the race run to suit and be able to pick them up under a calm and well timed Jacob ride. Bristol novice hurdle - race revolves around one piece of form, that of Aye Aye Charlie at Aintree last spring. If he runs to that form he wins this doing handstands. If he runs to within five or so lbs of that then he still wins this. At 3/1 I think he’s a cracking bet. International- tough race but I do like the progress being made by Silver Streak and if he can find a career best then he can win a his grade 2 hurdle. If Summerville Boy turns up in last seasons form and doesn’t take the hurdles home with him, then he would be the good thing here. Mares hurdle - Ratoute Yutty looks ahead of the handicapper but I wonder if she flattered to deceive last time out. Sensulano should get an easyish time racing prominently and that should prove her to be good enough to run into the front three places.
A couple of very speculative bets today. I’m hoping The New One gets back to somewhere near his best, at 10/1 I think it’s worth a go ew. Also, all teams to score in the Prem this weekend over 300/1. Could be down after the City v Toffees game but I’ll take the chance. War Sound in the Caspian for me. Have a good weekend fellas. Good luck
I’m sure there is no place Jerry McGrath would ‘Rather Be’ than at on the winners podium at Cheltenham after the 1.55
Summerville boy for me in the international down to elimination against a bunch of old timers and just not great Horses, Brain Power doesn’t get on at Cheltenham and picked up the pieces in the arkle and going back to hurdling after a chasing takes a special horse of which he is not
As Kevin Keegan once said 'I would absolutely fookin love it if the New One got in the 1 berth of the winners enclosure today'.
Two bets today for me: Cheltenham 1.55pm going to war with War Sound Was rated 148 in his pomp over hurdles and Hobbs stable were under a cloud last season so I just think he never fired. Impressive first time up at Aintree and I think he can build on that. 11/1 each way 6 places. Cheltenham 3.40pm Petticoat Tails 6/1 each way. Rain should have arrived by then which should suit...had a wind op since and I m expecting a big run. Good luck all.
Oh and it wouldn't surprise me if the New One disappoints today and an announcement follows 're him being a grand servant and him looking forward to retirement..
Yard have stated that would be the case this week. Hopefully he gets one last big race run in before he retires
Morning 12.05 Fairyhouse-Paris Texas Each Way @ 15-2 [Bet Bright] Interesting recruit to chasing for top stable
I would love to see that but I don't think it will happen. In the absence of the new one winning this I hope Summerville Boy wins it convincingly...say by about 6 lengths to enter Champion hurdle calculations.. .
