There's a story coming out of Germany that we could get him for about £1m. The translation is not very good but as I read it; he wants to stay, Koln are okay with that but it's still very much in the balance because there's beeen no movement by us.

Here is the text of the article -

    Cologne -

Rather clammy is 1st FC Köln. Alone in this season, there is a gaping budget hole of about four million €.

Because good news from England. Sascha Riether (27) loaned to Fulham FC, provides powerful sensation in the Premier League. The defender has become the indisputable master power. "The Machine" also convinced, despite the recent 0-1 defeat against Manchester United.

FC Transfer Manager Jörg Jacob hopes that Riether remains longer in England. "He has made a good name. Even if Fulham did not want to come, surely another club, "Jacob said a few days ago. The consequence would be that the FC could pocket the fat transfer fee of € 1.5 million and to the content, could also save some € 1.5 million.

Odd about the statement is: The FC was known that it is probably nothing. Because Riether wants after the season back to FC. That explained his adviser Volker Struth by the Cologne-based agency Total Sports.

"We were surprised by the statements of the 1st FC Köln "Struth said yesterday the Express," as today is that Sasha will appear again in the summer on Geißbockheim. "

And that would have consequences for the second division. The scheduled-million transfer fee for the former FC captain, who in Cologne has a contract until 2014, would be gone, would also require the ex-Wolfsburg again appear on the payroll.

And now? FC's hands are tied. Only the player decides his future. And is in the balance. Managing director Claus Horstmann said: "I last spoke with Sascha in September. Fulham has an option. Whether they draw is unclear. "

Would have been informed that the FC over Riethers return, he could not confirm. However, it would be a way out. Cologne still manages to climb. Could the club Riether pay not only the fighters could also be a real gain athletic again after his England trip.

As the article also suggests, if we don't want him someone else undoubtedly will. Why don't we get the deal done???

There's no question what the fans would want - at the moment he's going to walk away with the 'Player of the Year' award. Mind every time one of our lot gets that, he seems to have gone within 12 months.

Once again we are the shop window for a player that would be such a great permanent signing for us. If we drag our feet we'll lose him.

According to one of the papers we have taken the option to sign reither in the summer.

It's on the sky sports iPhone app morning paper talk.

The BBC cites a very brief Daily Express article http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/gossip/ saying that Jol has said we'll try to sign him permanently in the summer. Presumably, we've got an option with his parent club, but it's dependent on Reither himself agreeing to stay. If I read Cottager's translated article right, there's at least a suggestion that he wants to stay at Cologne and is only out on loan because of their financial difficulties. I hope I'm either reading that wrong, or it's just the Cologne-based media outlet twisting things for their local readership. Time will tell.

As you say Captain. "Time will tell" - confirmed by Sascha himself when he also told the local rag that his preference is to stay at Fulham

Well that sounds promising then. We've said we want him, his club seem willing to sell him, and he seems to want to stay here. All good!

And ahead of Valentine's day, Sascha has that "Lovin' Feeling" - well he's at least feeling better after his 'hotel bug', which is good news.

“Yes, it was frustrating,” said Sascha. “But I am fine now and will be available for selection against Stoke City.

“For me, it’s been a great time at Fulham so far. It was my first experience of another country and it was a big step for me to come to England. But I have to say Fulham is like a family and I like playing here. The fans are great, I like the stadium and it’s been all good so far.”

I wouldn't have thought Stanislav Manolev would have any trouble feeling at home, what with fellow Bulgar, Berba and sharing the same Agent as Dejagah.

Is it a done deal? According to Jol it is.

In his press conference today he was quizzed on Sascha's future and said,

“It’s the same as with my contract. “They took that option with me in October and they [the press] still talk about it. With Sascha Riether, we’ve got an option on him, so it’s an easy one. I’m very keen to keep him – we’ve got an option, as I said, so if we want to keep him, we will keep him. And we want to keep him.”

WOW!! If only the Club would officially announce details of a new contract wouldn't that make it a bumper Easter - Brede, U19s in a cup final, walloping the QPhaha and Sascha.

Our Player's 'Player of the Year' has given an interview to the Standard. Goodness knows why because all they have done is twisted the article to say we can't keep our players. Anyway the final paragraph is of interest -

"Fulham have an option to buy Riether for around £1.3million when his loan deal expires this summer and Jol has indicated his desire to keep him. Riether, who is set to return from an ankle injury against Reading on Saturday, is in talks with the club and is confident an agreement will be reached."

Surely that's not going to break the bank and even though he's now 30, where would we get a comparable replacement at the price?

MAF and Jol shouldn't waste time on this. He's been great and, like Riise, I don't care about his age.

30 is relatively young for a defender anyway. He's basically a teenager in comparison to the rest of our defence.

Do we not have to wait until the transfer window opens to complete a deal?

I don't think we have to wait to tie things up - exchanging contracts, etc with his parent club - but the deal can't actually go through until the window opens (I think).

There are two possible scenarios here. 1 - the club has already agreed a contract with Sascha and the deal is done pending the transfer window opening. 2 - Sascha's agent has rejected our offer and is stalling for time, knowing that we might well up the money on offer in order to seal the deal and prevent him going to the open market.

There is no real question that the club would have already discussed the contract with Sascha; if he wants to stay here, he will. The only question is whether we can meet whatever demands his agent has made.

Hmm I'm not too sure. Do the players have any control over how much an agent is requesting? Both parties do need to work together after all. Hopefully Riether can give his agent a kick up the arse and tell him to get a move on.

    YES

"Fulham have taken up a £1.1million option to sign on-loan right back Sasha Reither from FC Cologne at the end of the season."

    Source: http://www.clubcall.com/fulham/fulham-take-up-defender-option-1590796.html

Sascha also sent a tweet yesterday evening :

@saschariether: Alles Gute @fckoeln.geile Stadt geiler Verein.ich drücke weiterhin die Daumen.der Fc gehört in die 1.Bundesliga.Danke für alles

DR can probably give the correct translation but I think it basically says, "Passionate city, passionate club. Best in the Bundesliga. Thanks for everything".

    What a relief !!
