Since Obertan and Marveaux are both out for 4 weeks and x weeks respectively, it opens up a space for another player to make their own.

For me, I think it should be Santon. Many said from his days at Inter that this was his best position, and he was much better at going forward than defending. I would keep Ryan Taylor at LB as he's doing a decent job at the moment and I wouldn't want to change an inform defence. Also, when he played vs Blackburn at LB he looked awfully one footed and he played a lot better once he shifted to the right side.

Furthermore, I think that Santon would track back more than Marv/Obertan which would assist Simpson more, therefore improving our defence and attack.

    Thoughts?

I would personally play Sammy and leave Ba upfront with Ben Arfa in behind.

Santon was originally a right midfield player so I Agree

I don't think that Sammy is anywhere near starting PL matches. Showed a total lack of experience against Everton so think he'd get torn a new one against City, Man Utd, and Chelsea.

It would add an extra level of defense to our game like Guttierez has at LB. Yeah it would be worth a go, especially in the next 2/3 games where the defense need to be at their best.

I had an injury crisis on last years footy manager and deplyed him there, resulting in him scoring the winner against Liverpool.

In reality, he might be a good option as he'l offer some defence down that side and is supposedly decent going forward.

Yea i dont see why not, hes got the ability and potential to be first team so get him in there while we can. if he doesnt do very well there we could always swap him and Raylor, would change the shape of the team without the need of a sub. gives us more options.

Agree with NUFCtom here. I proposed the same the other day on the formation porn thread. Starting Sammy would be suicidal, his contributions have been overhyped so far and I'm not denying his talent, it's just very clear to me that it's very raw at the moment.

If Pardew doesn't have the choice of Obertan/Marveaux then I think he might have to plump for Santon. Only other player I can see him picking for RM over him would be Gosling but I wouldn't be happy with that as he really isn't a winger.

If not Santon, then HBA (if both Ba and Best are healthy and playing)...I know I know, Pardew wants him in the hole, he wants to play there, but I suspect more than anything he'd just like to start and have more time to prove himself! And if we're open-minded to Santon playing midfield instead of on the backline, we definitely should be openminded to Benny playing in his traditional position.

Sammy was rubbish last match. Ben Arfa/ Santoon or VUckic over him for me.

I can see Pardeaux putting Guthrie on the right if Cabaye and Tiote are fit and ready to play. <yikes>

He put Jonas RM against Everton after subs were made, but I don't like Jonas there. He was tired so can't judge him entirely from that match, but he was ineffective going forward.

I would imagine guthrie on the wing then gosling/dream boat/tiote in CM if anything. Guthrie is more of a winger than gosling or santon in pardrews eyes Id imagine. But you never know we are Newcastle United after all!

Think pards is more likely to stick Raylor in midfield and Santon at LB

Doubt that will happen - he will want to keep our defence as it is
