I know that it's a major part of why he's in the side, but a Talksport (I know) article puts him as the leading player in that statistic this season. Can't say that I'm surprised, to be honest, but I am surprised by how far ahead he is of everyone else. Prior to today's game he'd made 74 interceptions, 18 more than the next most successful player. Who's that, I don't hear you ask? Jan Vertonghen on 56 (and Chris Baird. Shh...) Top 10 Premier League players for interceptions 1. Sandro (Tottenham) - 74 2. Jan Vertonghen (Tottenham) - 56 3. Chris Baird (Fulham) - 56 4. Morgan Schneiderlin (Southampton) - 55 5. Mikel Arteta (Arsenal) - 51 6. Geoff Cameron (Stoke) - 50 7. Steve Sidwell (Fulham) - 50 8. Ryan Nelson (QPR) - 46 9. Mikele Leigertwood (Reading) - 45 10. Ashley Williams (Swansea) - 45 Our 4 man midfield seems to have too much for a lot of side's 5, at times. Just a shame that we're somewhat misfiring up top and lacking that little bit of creativity and cutting edge. Quick mention for Geoff Cameron of Stoke. Great buy by Pulis, so far. Living on the edge a bit at times, but he's had an impressive start to his career in England. £1.6m.
must be one of the 1st names on the team sheet, not been subbed recently (even with our hectic schedule), has strength and a real commanding presence, one of our most important players and I think he can still improve, especially in an attacking sense.
As I said the otherday, it's only a matter of time before the rumour mill cottons on to what a superb player he is and starts linking him to every top club across Europe. If I'm being picky, that stat is a little misleading as both Baird and Schneiderlin have played a lot less games but even if you average it per game he still edges them both as the most with 3.8 per game.
A case where stats do tell a true story. Sandro's been absolutely superb all year. I'd guess he's also had the most interceptions leading directly to goals in the league as well. The Sandro-Dembele partnership has controlled midfield just about every game. It's great Vertonghen is second. It shows how well AVB has gotten the team closing down the opposition.
could this also mean we lose the ball alot more than the rest in the opposition third? thus giving Sandro,Jan the need to win it back much more?
I think it's more about the way that we play, Dona. This high line and closing down game seems to force sides into mistakes.
thats true we suffocate them..i just felt that it went hand in hand with the fact that the likes of Defoe dont hold the ball enough. i must stop thinking out of the box.
So he doesn't have a new job in the summer then?
I think thats a pic of the new one that is supposedly being built as of last year, there were various articles about it but I can't find anything recent or imminent.
My mates Dad had one, this was some time ago i might add!, it was all wrapped up in one of his garages, 12mpg at best!
Our neighbour had one, in a gold-ish brown colour, I'll never forgot it. He also had a tall leggy blonde (model class) girlfriend and I won't forget her neither. I was only a lad at the time but I can still remember the smooth, luxurious comfort,.......and the intense speed that brought more then a smile to my face.
What did we do before these meaningless stats were compiled? It's surely logical to conclude that a team which dominates possession wouldn't have many players high up the interception table, isn't it? And teams chasing the game will have many attempts at goal, even if most of them are hopeful attempts from 35 yards which are more likely to endanger the corner flags than the goal? And if you tap the ball sideways, you can achieve a fantastic pass completion rate? Not to mention a high doubles percentage if you play Phil Taylor and hit the double first time in the only leg you get any chance to win
I think Sandro and Vertonghen are totally brilliant in their different roles....and our French goalie is beginning to remind me of Bill Brown. Both goalies slight in build but utterley fearless and reliable. I'm afraid the jury's out regarding Dempsey at the moment but I'm beginning to enjoy his ex Fulham team mate!
Sandro has been amazing. Even during his slow start you could see he was going to be quality. Definite one of my favourite Spurs players
http://www.guardian.co.uk/football/2012/dec/30/sunderland-tottenham-hotspur-premier-league-report He thinks we can win the league. A bit OTT but he's so awesome he could probably win the league on his own.
Love his and your optimism. Me and my lad loed it when Torres tried to front up to him. I think Sandro jsut laughed in his face and walked off
