Team for tonight, a slight suprise as Nunez and Gradel are both on the bench??? McCormack as a lona striker seems odd too, Nunez has been the best player in pre season thus far, perhaps Clayton, Brown and Howson are competing for the other 1/2 Ceter mid slots

    -----------------------------Rachubka

    Connolly-------------Kisnorbo---------------Bromby---------------White

    Mendy-----------------------Brown--------Clayton----------------Sam

    ------------------------------------Howson (should be Nunez)

    ---------------------------------McCormack (big game tonight needed)

Nah not a surprise, they have both proved themselves so far pre-season now it is time to see who will be joining them in a starting 11 against Southampton

Just wish he would play Lees! Atleast he's giving White a start. Would have liked Gradel in at the expense of Sam? And maybe Nunez will replace Ross if he doesn't start well

I don't see Nunez starting against Southampton. Brown, Howson and 1 new signing will be the central midfield for the season IMO. Nunez has the ability to change games but I can't see where he would go in the starting 11. He's got Howson, Snodgrass and Gradel all in front of him at the moment.

And maybe Mendy? Strong squad, the Hungarian LB plays in the reserves tonight too hopefully, as Bessone has missed his chance in pre season

No, any manager would choose the England under 21 who scored more than 10 goals from midfield and set up loads aswell. The fact he's a Leeds fan is a bonus, he's better than Nunez regardless.

they've both proven themselves. Mendy needs extra game time to see if we want to sign him, and Howson has had **** all game time preseason so this set up makes sense. Nunez has done enough to get himself a regular spot, even if he doesn't start EVERY game. rotation plz :)

there's no doubt that Nunez is something special when he's allowed a free-roaming role in the midfield. But Howson is pure class and is also already proven at this level after playing well every game last season. I think Nunez has done enough to get himself noticed enough to get game time during the season but you don't drop one of your star players for someone unproven no matter how much potential he's got. He'll have to earn his place like every other player. Also, you're an idiot if you think Nunez should be played before Howson when Howson has had **** all game time this preseason.

This is preseason. Preseason is about fitness more than anything and Sam needs more game time. We want Sam fit this season so the more gametime he gets the better, because we missed him last season when he was injured and we had to overwork Gradel and Snodgrass. There's absolutely no doubt at all that Sam can give Gradel and Snodgrass a run for their money, he is very very good.

It's all good competition for places, and we've a lot of talent pushing for a start. I guess the Geordie game will give us a better idea of SG starting 11

i personally would probably play nunez out wide, dont think he is a striker personally. If one of our wingers is injure we sure do have some mighty backup with nunez, sam, possibly mendy as well, mccormack can play out wide as well

I feel Grayson wanted to start the season with McCormack and Bechio up front, he would have used Somma as his off the bench impact player or when he felt Bechio or McCormack needed a break. No doubt it is a majot blow losing Somma, it is nearly as big a blow that McCormack and Bechio haven't had a pre-season together. I think Grayons hand has been forced to start with his 4-5-1 formation, what other choice does he really have.

I want to see a midfield of Gradel, Snodgrass, Howson, Brown and Nunez bossing the play and dictating the game from start to finish, leave McCormack up front on his own and our midfield is quite capable of scoring goals and they will need to be.

As scary as it sounds, paynter in that formation. Especially if we don't need to rely on him for goals!
