Inter Milan striker Samuel Eto'o has revealed he is mulling over a move to the Barclays Premier League this summer.

The Cameroon star, who has three years remaining on his contract, had said that he wanted to remain at the San Siro after scoring twice in their Coppa Italia triumph over Palermo.

But he told Corriere dello Sport: "I am currently considering my options. I have one month to decide as to whether I want to stay put or choose to move to the Premier League.

"I am now 30 years old and it is very important for me to think about my future before I sign what could be my last contract.

"I have already shown that I have what it takes to play in Italy and I now have the idea of proving myself in England."

The former Barcelona forward had been linked with moves to Chelsea and Arsenal earlier in his career.

    --------

Surely we should be looking at someone like that. I know he's 30 but he is a proven goalscorer in Spain and Italy. He could be amazing at Spurs.

His wage demands would be far too high.

Inter said that he wasn't for sale recently, so he's probably just trying to negotiate a new contract.

One of the few strikers who really is better than our current crop and might actually come - although wages are probably the issue

Wants too much money in wages unfortunately. His best days are behind him but he is still light years ahead of all of our strikers. If we could come to a satisfactory deal, think Klinsmann or Ginola. Both at the far end of their careers, but both revelations in a Spurs shirt.

if we sell a few of our deadwood then that will free up wages but we have a wage structure the only way around it is if we say offer him a 5 year contract instead of a 3 at least then he has his security and we have our man and the wage structure stays intact

how can we have a problem that he is 30 when we are chomping at the bits to get drogab in that is 33? and yes i know drogba is experienced in the PL...but we all also know that eto can do it anywhere and with our midfield supplying him then he can have a field day....sometimes this age thing is overated....experiance is vital for a club like ours who is stuttering to cross the line and become a permanent fixture in the top 4

Selling the dead wood wouldn't allow us to raise our wage ceiling to a level that would allow us to sign a player like Eto'o.
It's not about an overall amount, but having a sustainable maximum.
If we give him more than our current highest earner, then we'll have to match that for some other players and we simply can't afford to do so.

I'd rather not go the way of Leeds, thanks.

i didnt say raise the wage ceiling i said it would free more wages....and i said if we despeeratly wanted him then the way around it would be to offer him a 5 year contract as oppose to a 3 year one..therefore he gets the money he wants ..albeit over a longer period of time..and we get our man..and the wage structure remains<ok>

He's a bit too much of an arrogant barsteward for my liking. He'll be a bit of an "I'm the star of the show" character and we don't want that.

No Dona,I remember him saying arrogantly that Spurs are not an option that he wanted a bigger club. There are I admit bigger clubs but it was his attitude which soured me. Maybe he's changed after our meetings against him after all we gave them whatfor didn't we?

Eto'o scored over 100 goals in five seasons with FC Barcelona, and is also the record holder in number of appearances by an African player in La Liga.[5] In 2010, he became the first player to win two European Continental Trebles following his back-to-back achievements with Barcelona and Internazionale. He is the second player to have ever scored in two separate UEFA Champions League finals and the fourth player, after Marcel Desailly, Paulo Sousa, and Gerard Piqué, to have won the UEFA Champions League two years in a row with different teams.[6] He is the most decorated African player of all time having won the African Player of the Year award a record four times in 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2010.

    Mallorca - 163 games 69 goals
    Barcelona - 200 games 130 goals
    Inter - 101 games 53 goals

I would love for anyone to tell me a better option we could sign than him.

He's obviously talking about a move to City or Chelsea. One final big payday. Like someone said, he seems to be an arrogant ###. For some reason i dont really like him.
When we were linked with him a few years ago did'nt he say " who are Spurs?" or something like that.

I'm with you Croatia. Perhaps we could swing a deal by offering a large bonus if he helps to get us back in the top 4? If we had a bigger stadium, then all this would be academic and players like E'to would not seem so far out of reach.

To be fair, that's not arrogance, just pragmatism. He is a world class player and would naturally want to be playing at the top level in the Champions League.

p.s. It was the great Zinidine Zidane who said

There are a lot of players I'd take if they simply asked for less money, but it's not going to happen is it? :(

I'm hoping Messi decides to become a philanphropist, run out his contract and sign on a free for Spurs shurning away generous offers of a salary and asking to play for us out of the kindness of his heart.

Back to reality, we need to focus on more realistic targets. We can't afford the finished article unless they take a massive drop.
