I thought I was in a time warp today, did I see Danny ****tu out there at centre half, balls out of the stadium etc etc, but no it was Chris Samba.

    I agree... He doesn't look like a £12m player.

I have to say that I have never been in the "this guy is a top centre half" camp. I rate him and he is very threatening in the opposition's box from corners etc, but his distribution is on a par with Hill's and he has very little ability on the ball. Best we have, but hardly a world beater imo.

Mind you, he's clearly not match fit. He's the least of our worries imo.

He,s a dead ringer for him, big lump, no control over his feet but good at corners. Better get the greenhouses boarded up again as the ball looks like it might be spending a lot of time over the stands.

It occurs to me that Harry had them keeping largely clean sheets for a while, then Nelsen goes....

Should be good for us in the Championship though. He will find his level there no problem

Absolute dead ringer! I was saying that today to my mate. Right down to the way he runs he's Big Dan!

He's a big presence and I think the criticism is a little harsh. Of course he's not 12 mill and COL you're right, he's not a top top centre half but he's the kind of guy that when fit, he could carry a team just by his sheer energy and physicality alone. Those are still big attributes in the British game and I can see why Managers like him.

Well said.. puts his body on the line too. By the way, since when has being compared with ****tu been a criticism? Too many people didn't see him, albeit in lower leagues, being immense for us. Samba, for reasons outlined above by others, is not a worry

    Well put pete
****tu played his part in both our promotion seasons and we had a lot of games where we would have lost was it not for him, one of my funniest memory's of him was kicking lumps out of Leon knight for 90 mins against Brighton in the league and cups, mismatch of century. If Samba can do that then I don't care either, he is saying the right things in the media and seems to have a lot of heart and pride in himself. Saying he is not worth 12 mil is a bit pointless as no player is worth that and he don't set the price on him the clubs do, if we had paid 400k or got him on a free would there be this much bashing?

****tu's team are in the 1/4 finals of the FA Cup and helped them beat the Smoggies - that alone should be worth £24 mil.

Samba and Hill both done a good job today. As ungainly as Samba appears he will do a good job for us. Both of our centre halves prevented four of the best strikers in the Prem from scoring this afternoon.

Are you serious? 12.5 m and 100 k a week for a Championship level CB? That's not what it said on the tin when many on here were begging Tony Fernandes to spend a few more million. I am curious as to how the description 'world class' has come to be applied to so many of our star players. Not only was Samba proclaimed to be 'world class' but singlehandedly he was going to save us.

Since when has it been ok for a club such as ours to break the bank to buy players that are unfit for more than they are worth?

From what I'm reading, like you say ................ he's not long here but has caught the 'bug' no doubt.
You would think with the law of averages, one of our big buys would shine, maybe not.

No criticism from me, we have needed a "Danny ****tu" type centre half ever since Danny ****tu left.

I remember comparing Samba with Bassong when you got him and being rubbished for it when I said Bassong was as good. With the benefit of hindsight I think I was being generous to Samba.

Maybe we should play Samba upfront for a whole game ............. surely couldn't score any less goals than what we are achieving at present!
Might give us a whole new edge.
