Samba Diakité (born 24 January 1989 in Montfermeil, France) is a Malian international footballer who plays for French club Nancy in Ligue 1.

He plays as a defensive midfielder and joined his current club following stints at two local clubs in the suburbs of Paris. On 27 December 2009, Diakité signed his first professional contract after agreeing to a two-year deal with Nancy.[1][2] He made his professional debut on 27 January 2010 in a Coupe de France match against Plabennec.[3]

    International career

On 24 January, 2012 Diakité made his senior international debut for the Mali national team at the 2012 African Cup of Nations, in the 1-0 gain against Guinea.[4]

Mind you Phillipe Auclair is a regular on Talksport and usually has his ear to the ground on all things French...

Don't mind these players/rumours coming in from left field. Usually French/African defensive midfielders are the real deal, very intriguing indeed.

    Nice find Seagull <cheers>

    Decent player, hope it's true.

Drives me mad the way commentators mispronounce names like his, Diallo, Diame etc. Di=J, Diame = Jammeh.

Not mispronouncing at all - why don't you spell it like it sounds, then? <doh> What a ridiculous thing to say.

Because they were French colonies... Senegal uses Diame, Gambia uses Jammeh. Same name which predates written local language there.

The African midfielder, who is currently at the Afcon, appears set to join to the Premier League club after Lyon pulled out of the race for the player

Nancy midfielder Samba Diakite is close to agreeing a loan transfer to QPR, France Football reports.

The Mali international has been strongly linked with a new challenge after establishing himself as a key member of the Ligue 1 outfit since 2010.

Olympique Lyonnais were understood to be frontrunners in the race to sign Diakite, but it is reported that the Stade de Gerland outfit decided not to follow up their interest in the African as they did not wish to lose him to the African Cup of Nations.

Diakite will reportedly join QPR until on a six-month loan deal, with the Premier League side having the option to buy him outright for €4 million at the end of the season.

The West London club, who sit 16th in the Premier League standings, have already signed Federico Macheda and Taye Taiwo on loan in January and are in talks with Sao Paulo regarding Henrique.

All I can say is if Lyon wanted him then that is good enough for me.

Sounds good, this one came totally out of nowhere, the best way to do business. MH clearly has a good network of 'links'...

Ok. So if Henrique had arrived, it would have been on loan with a future fee agreed for the summer. Same with Taiwo. And now same with this guy? I'm starting to think we'll be spending a lot of money in the summer!

Seriously, might be a shrewd way to do business, as we don't commit any cash until we know we're safe....
