In Russia, a football fan has this weeknd thrown a banana to Samba. This would not have been tolerated in English top football nowadays. I remember the scousers throwing bananas to Barnes but this has not happened since those days.

All our clubs and fans must be careful not to get dragged back to the dark days.

First of all I don't remember Liverpool fans throwing bananas at John Barnes.
Second of all, in those days there were a certain amount of people at grounds that were not supporters at all, the gangs! Football in the England and europe was rife with these people.
Thirdly, Russia has a xenophobia problem from decades of closed borders and propaganga that johnny foreigner is evil so unlike England of which there was no cultural basis for breeding racism other than pure ignorance and hate and oh yeah, slavery and exploitation and elitism.

You want to have a crack at liverpool, fine, dont disguise it in a Samba thread and pretend to take the moral high ground. <doh>

But This is par for you fistian. Always trying to stoke up anger and hate in your own way<ok> I think you possibly could be racist, you're certainly full of bile

    ofc they do.

OP makes a correct and factual statement about Barnes, que butthurt LFC "supporter" getting his knickers in a twist.

FYI BBF he said Scousers not Liverpool FC, the match was between Liverpool and Everton.

Outraged by everything, ashamed of nothing.

Trust BB Fool the buffoon to pick on the scousers bit. It is a matter of fact that The scousers (LIVERPOOL not Everton) fans threw bananas at John Barnes when he started at the scousers. He recalls his own fans ringing him to say " Look we have nothing aginst you as a person but you wouldnt fit in in a club like Liverpool because we do not have anybody like you. You will find it difficult to be accepted because you have a different culture etc etc...."

OK the scousers have moved on a lot since abusing one of their own. Also I respect Barnes as a human being. He understands the context of the times and was/is willing to forgive those morons who wanted him out.

In a way the Suarezs affair and now Samba reminds us that we cannot be complacent. Things are happening in other countries that we as as a nation find disgusting. In Spain and Italy, the crowds are still far behind ours in terms of sensitivity and awareness.

I gave the Barnes episode as an example of the past. We must remain vigilant.

    @Hendy

hating the scousers? who gave you that idea? "some of my best friends are scousers fans"

Unfortunately for you, it was his own fans. Mind you after a while because he was so good he became your hero....even though he is black. He is asked about that dark episode in his life many times when racism comes up as an issue.

Alan, I do not see why it should be. The scousers come here to spoil our threads. I don't go on theirs. So they should just pis5 off.

They condone Suarez and his actions. At a time when racism is rearing its head all they can think of is to defend the buffoon and the scumbag who has been banned for 8 weeks fr his unacceptable actions.

The likes of Samba and Eto'o are willing to endure racism in return for lots of money.

    Says a lot about them.

Just be careful you do not blame the victim here. Yes they went to play for a lot of money. But they do not have to be racially abused! It is like attacking a woman and saying she shouldn't have been in that place. Everyone has the right to work without being abused.
