Just a quick post about this trial player Sam Williams,

i have watched highlights of both friendlys and from what I've seen i would love for charlton to snap him up. his goal in the welling game was composure at its best and i can see him being a good goalscorer. we need a striker as well as we only have 3 at the moment.

one more thing has anyone heard of any right back rumours preferably from a good source

I really like Sam Williams and believe he would be a good punt - economical too! He just needs the rough edges smoothing down.

Yeovil fans didn't seem positive about him last night, which is always a concern. Took his goal very well, but understand he missed a clear chance last night. Never going to put 'em all away, I suppose, but he doesn't quite fit the mould of a young fast finisher which I was hoping for in our 4th CF...

TVR would Scott Wagstaff fit your description of a 4th choice striker?

Yes, more than 2nd choice winger in fact.

TVR, would Tosan Popo be a young fast finisher?

My opinion is that we more urgently need a big target man, which Williams seems to be, as our 4th striker. Somebody to throw on if it is 1-1 with 15 mins to go and cause havock in the opposition defence.

We have BWP and Benson as main strikers with Hayes and Bover as deeper strikers but nobody to get their head to stuff when it will hurt.

AHLL... I really hate the idea of a big target man for the sake of it, but if he's effective then fair enough. My understanding is that this is not the style we're looking to play and if we're in those desperate straights (say last minute in a cup game) I'd rather throw the big men up from the back. I'm hoping that Hayes and Benson can be effective enough with their heads.

Doherty has been a striker at various times throughout his career, and I would imagine he would start most games on the bench, so he would also work as a big target man to throw on in the last few minutes to try and nab a goal.

No, Doherty is well known for being a threat at set pieces.

Just a suggestion, that's all, and I do agree that we need another striker

Think we definitely need a target man as a plan B

Would consider Doc up front as more of a plan Y
    - Plan X has Elliott playing up front

Plus the Doc is leaving us soon

Wasn't Doc Captain last night against Bristol City? I'd be surprised that he'd be leaving personally. He does have a record of scoring goals though as he was a striker at Spurs I believe?
Back to Sam Williams though, I think at this stage he'd be worth taking a risk. The criticism from Yeovil fans could be that they are bitter that he has left?
Management of CAFC say that there is a good squad coming together with good camaraderie so give the guy a chance to grow with the squad and show what he can do?

We need a plan B, it is too easy for a team with limited players (as you get in L1) to set up a formation to stop our front two if they have similar styles. We need a plan B to change things around if A is not working.

If we signed Williams tomorrow I'd have faith in the Powell and the players he's brought in, but he wouldn't be my first choice in terms of style, and I wonder if we couldn't find better elsewhere. But perhaps the answer is 'no'

It was surprising that Doc didn't score last year, given his record. I'm sure he's scored against Charlton...

I'm afraid CB is right Dick. When the Doc made the breakthrough at Spurs he started as a centre forward (as did Sol Campbell by the way). Well at least until they realised what a big lumbering, talentless sack of s**t he is anyway.

On Williams... I would like the gaffer to have a longer look at him before making a decision one way or the other.

Personally, I'd like to see us bring in a more target man type forward in as our 4th forward. Just to give us an extra option when required. (Calvin Zola would do me).

There is more to Williams than just his height. He has a good touch and an eye for goal.

L3 is right, the Yeovil fans are bitter. There were whispers that Bowditch was going to leave and that Williams would be their main man; but he has left and now Yeovil are short of options.
He will not cost the earth in wages and can get better and better. Plan B thinking is short-sighted.
