My thoughts are that with the possibility of Sam going to become England manager, nobody (any good) will be wanting to join SAFC because they won't know who will be our manager. If he does want the England job we must look now for a replacement but it means we can forget this transfer window because anyone new will not really know what's needed to add to our squad. The current uncertainty will harm the coming season for us and could see us relegated through no fault of our own. I can understand it if Sam wants the England job and would wish him well but we really want him to stay here. We like him and he is good for us, but the longer the England manager's job remains vacant then the more we will be affected by possible transfers not willing to come. Sam can put a stop to this situation by stating his plans. He can either say he is staying and does not want the England job, which is what we all want, or he can declare his interest in the England job so that we can look for a replacement. Keeping quiet is not an option. I hope he commits himself to us but the club needs to know.
Until the FA approach him, Sam needs to do absolutely nothing. Especially in public. The hierarchy will have spoken to him. Everyone will know where everyone stands. We don't need a manager begging for another job or rejecting it publicly when he has no chance whatsoever.
@Charley Farley I'm really surprised you think Sam has a chance of getting the job. I really hope he doesn't. He doesn't have the CV for it for a start, never mind the accent! But if he's offered it, he has to take it. But he'll go with my full support, even though I'll be gutted! Not many men get the chance to lead their nation's national team, so I'll be pleased for him to have the opportunity. Pleased but gutted!
Apparently he's second favourite after Klinsmann so it's quite possible we could lose him leaving us in limbo.
Good post because I think it's all in our minds if we are honest. Interesting to see Gold at West Ham come out and make the statement that Billic isn't interested so they jumped right on it. I do believe like what has previously been posted that there will have been talks at the highest level in the club to see where Sam stands on this. By past comments and also his interview for the job one would assume he is interested. Like stated I hope this doesn't have a rabbit in the headlights affect on our club over the crucial next few weeks. Sam stated that there was going to be a high turnover of players this Summer. As of yet nothing has happened in terms of players coming in.....maybe just on hold until now as Bain has started. It would be great if clarity can be applied....especially for the fans. My ideal scenario is that Sam tells the FA to go and **** themselves with his power point presentation.....that's if they have the equipment there this time
That's nothing, mate. He was about 12th favourite when the odds came out, a few people 'fancy him' for the job and put a few quid on and it's brought his odds down. I'm not worried and I imagine everything at Sunderland football club is just carrying on as usual.
There is some momentum being built up now for Big Sam getting the England job. I can .....sadly... see this happening now.
I hope he does stay with us, but if he is approached for the England job then I'd wish him all the very best.
Right call but as Charley Farley pointed out the ensuing uncertainty could kill our pre season transfer activity unless a clear statement is made by BSA or the new CE
I don't see it as uncertain to be honest. Sam hasn't been publicly targeted by the FA, Sam hasn't stated his interest publicly. There's nothing more than bullshit speculation as it stands. Sam will be preparing for the new season as if nothing is going on... Because it's fairly likely nothing is going on. A few people worrying on an internet forum and a couple of bullshit articles are hardly going to derail us.
I think there is more chance of Mary Poppins getting it than BSA. Squeaky clean, will tow/toe the line. Will say the right things whereas Sam always comes across as a right miserable b*stard in his post match interviews. I fully expect BSA to be with us next season and following the high level turnover of staff he spoke of I expect a vastly superior team here for the kick off.
He's likely done so with the board, the players and those he's trying to sign. He really needs to do nothing other than that unless he's gunning for the job. No news is probably good news in this case.
