Evening Post letters page has this quote from Sam Hamamm when he was in charge of Cardiff 11 years ago... ''Some people tell me that Swansea is the enemy, Swansea for Pete's sake! "There is nothing wrong with Swansea but is that the extent of our ambition? "Swansea will never be a big club and if they are honest with themselves they will say so, if Swansea fans are Welsh and want to see top class football in Wales, then they should recognise that Cardiff City is the only Welsh club with a cat in hell's chance of making it.'' That quote has helped make Cardiff a laughing stock.
Its not so much as making a Cardiff a laughing stock, more like making hammam one as the guy's ego knows no bounds, I hope Cardiff actually make his so called debt to langstone disappear, if anyone deserves losing money it's him
Between the long distance Malaysian owners, Hammann on the sidelines and the ayatollahs allegedly sinking under a spiralling debt then it could be a rocky season ahead for them in what looks quite a divided camp in cardif
In all fairness, that was a quote from 11 years ago - and we certainly were not in a position to be the 1st welsh team in the PL. We were struggling to survive financially - even Wrexham had a better chance than us of being in the PL! I think the fact that we have gone from League 2 to PL in just 7 seasons in an amazing feat. With the importance of money these days i.e. post 1992 and PL formation, the only club to have bettered that were Hull City. As long as Swansea stay up, I wouldn't mind seeing Cardiff promoted to the PL next year. It would be good to have the South Wales derby in the PL, but the last thing I want is for Cardiff to come up and Swansea to go down! Imagine what those Bluebirds will say if that happens! Then again, this was their best chance in donkey's years to win promotion with players like Bellamy, Bothroyd, Chopra, arguably the best team in the Championship and the Bluebirds blew it!
Wal1000 - No worries if we go down and Cardiff go up next season! The fact remains that when the chips were down and the playing field was level (both clubs competing in the same division), we got promoted and they didn't! We'll always be remembered as the first Welsh club to enter the Premier League! I think with the right additions (and Danny Graham is one of them), we've got it in us to stay up next season. Forget Sam Hamman, let's just look to the present and the future now.
those ill informed words have come back to haunt you sam just three facts for you sam swansea were the last welsh club to play in the top flight....cardiff were nowhere near.. swansea were the first to get a new stadium...cardiff years behind.. swansea are the first club to reach the premiership.....cardiff tried everything from over spending to expensive loan players for seasons but could not do it. cardiff are well and trully in our shadow and have been for years... so sam my man how way out with your assessments of the both clubs were you.
Dream on Jacks, Cardiff is still YOUR CAPITAL CITY and Cardiff City is still the biggest club in Wales with a bigger ground and bigger support than you. Well done on getting to the Prem though. No complaints on that score. You are there on merit.
Yawn Cardiff is the capital your right there my friend, but the real question is for how much longer??, with the football team not heading anywhere good with 8 loan players going back and other players out of contract ditching you..... its a bumpy road ahead. May see you in the FA cup someday when lower league teams look to play the Big boys! P.S would be nice to have more than one welsh team in the premier league i always say, whether its you, neath or Wrexham lol
And your comment about being the biggest club in Wales is all grown up bigger is not always better, tell me who's the best club in Wales ?
Come on, guys, let's all lighten up. When we slag off Cardiff we are doing the same to their decent supporters many of whom have come on here to congratulate us and wish us well. How hard is that to do? They have my complete respect. So we have some of the other kind as well, giving it large and wumming. So what? Rise above it and ignore it. The present situation speaks for itself. Some of the Cardiff fans are stand-up people, Aber and Sparkey amongst quite a few others, so the barbs we let fly at the other type hit the "innocent" as well. Not good, Swans. Let's show a little dignity, a little class. Supporters of both clubs know the situation, where we are at. Rubbing it in with cheap shots does nobody any credit. And, finally, a word of warning starting with two cliches. Football is a funny game and you reap what you sow. Twelve months from now the roles could be reversed and all this gloating could come back to haunt us. Me? I wouldn't blame them one bit.
Totally. If someone comes on and directly attacks you, fine, give them a mouthful... all this kind of stuff is just childish nonsense though. Sam Hamann knows he´s a numpty, and most self respecting Cardiff fans don´t want him to have anything to do with their club anymore anyway...
Most Cardiff fans are like you and me, passionate about our teams. Unfortunately we all have wums saying that anyone heard from DaiSwan. Sam Hamman was only in it for publicity and has crippled them for years. He liked his statements and courting contraversy. Remember Petty he was no different. Best £1 our board ever spent. All we need to go with all the 1st is 1st Welsh team in the Europa or CL. God the English Press would love that
