Hi there, Gills fan in peace there's been a few rumours recently that we maybe getting your young Gallagher on loan for either 6 months or a season long loan. Now I know he started to break into your team towards the end of the season so if it's plausible or not I'm not so sure, but I thought I would ask if you Saints fans have heard anything similar to back these rumours up. Or are always these rumours just rumours and nothing more. Thanks in advance
I don't know if it is true, but I think it could do him some good. I thought we didn't really do loans though...
He doesn't look ready for the Prem just yet so I'd not be surprised if we loaned him out. That said, we've not heard anything about it on here.
I don't know if it would make a difference that he's good mates with Peter Taylor or not though. Sounds like the rumours we've heard are just over optimistic as usual
Just before he loaned out Stephens and Isgrove. Gallagher is a young lad who could do with a loan spell I think.
I haven't heard anything in this regard mate. And it seems that it's not the Southampton way to loan out any players who are in and around the 1st team (there are exceptions, Osvaldo being one) or even youngsters who are deemed to have a future with us. Having said that, I think this would be an awesome move for him, young Sam needs regular playing time in my opinion. He was only getting so much game time last season because of our striker shortage (again, Osvaldo!) and I can't see him getting so much this coming season, unless we don't get any other forwards in, which I hope isn't going to be the case. I guess now we have a new manager he will run the rule over him, and the other youngsters, but I really think Sam would benefit from a loan spell, even though it would buck the trend of recent years.
He's currently our first choice striker! If we get a couple of new strikers in, then it would be a good move for him
I wouldn't completely dismiss it. He could do with a loan spell. Get a couple of strikers in and he can go on loan as far as I'm concerned.
I didn't think he looked outclassed so much as a non-entity. He only seemed to know how to run full-speed forward and try to get behind defenders. But even there, he lacked timing and didn't create angles. Basically as soon as we got the ball he just started running forward. Then when that didn't work, he just sort of drifted around aimlessly. As a result, he never made himself a target and thus never got into the game. But I think a bit of confidence and some experience would help him tremendously. When he actually did get the ball, I thought he was okay. It wasn't like he was easily dispossessed, just most of the time he got the ball in areas where he couldn't do much with it. I could see him doing pretty well at a lower level.
I know Al but I dont think either are destined for our first team. In the same way Hoskins went two seasons back.
