To be honest forgot all about him until I just read Andy Stockhausen's tweet and it turns out he has yet to score for Brighton and has gone over 900 minutes without scoring a goal.... Now when we signed Agard, Baldock was still here and we were told that it wasn't a replacement signing.. when indeed it was but is seems we've got the much better deal here. Sold Baldock for 2 million, doubling what we paid for him and got Agard for 500-700k, plus the 6 other players covered. Before Baldock left he looked pretty poor and it seems that the championship is just a step to high for him at the moment. Agard has been great and he really is a fox on the box type striker, which we've not really had. Just seems at the moment every thing we do turns to gold. Still earlyish days but it seems the club is pulling in the right direction, from board to staff. please log in to view this image
I had my doubts with Sam flying last year about losing him, but got to admit I keep an eye on Brighton's scorers to see if Baldock had scored. But it's nice to see that for once we've got a manager that understands when x is leaving lets get Y in first. Really impressed with Agard fitted into the role well and as you said a real poacher but also a hard working player. Damn that Cotterill man proving us all wrong
Never mind - Sam could be back scoring again next season with Brighton- in league 1 with us lording over him from the league above!
I also keep a keen eye on our past "hero's" Adomah seems best, Skuse is a regular with high "ish" flyers Bolasie doing well but does prove a bit difficult to keep in touch with many of the others as they don't seem to do much or are loaned out..transferred or whatever..Akinde back in the right grade ..for the moment.....! top man in the conference!
I suppose we were told he wasn't a replacement for Baldock as (quite rightly.) the fans didn't trust the board to make the right decisions and after the last few years we have had I am not surprised. Cotterill isn't putting a foot wrong at the moment and I hope that buys him the patience he will deserve when we have a little spell where its not all golden. these boys still haven't been tested in defeat yet and long may it last, but it is inevitable.!
exactly Banksy, i have said before, lets see how we react to a defeat, hopefully itll be a one off and we will go marching on
When exactly do we think that first defeat will come.... I'd think we could maintain it this month but November will be a challenge... Swindon, Preston, Peterborough all one after the other. Get through that unbeaten and I think automatics will be very very realistic.
I too keep an eye on Adomah. Proving popular in Middlesbrough and has been their best player this and last season. Baldock will go on a run sooner rather than later although I thought he might of at least scored for Brighton by now. I did read though that Brighton play long balls up to him all game... Always thought they we're a keep it on the floor type team but Hypia must have changed that.
Ive just checked up on Bobby Reid, played every game for plymouth since his loan and their fans love him! They're desperate for him to sign an extension so that bodes well for us. I'd personally let him stay there until January then bring him back and try and get him involved. All positive reviews from argyle fans, saying hes great on the ball and very confident! Good to see he's not being bullied by some of the lumps in L2.
Whilst on the subject of ex players. I noticed that Danny Coles got the only goal against the gas for Forest Green yesterday.
Baldock just isn't Championship standard. I said it as soon as he went. He's surely on a lot more money at Brighton than he was with us, and maybe that's his main motivation? Good player at L1
Everything is nice and rosy down at the Gate but as most of you say we can only judge ourselves when, and if, we fall from grace and that will test us, but I think this current group of players under SC's direction do seem to have a lot more going for them than some in the recent past. I don't get any enjoyment from seeing ex players underachieving but can't help but notice that a certain player named Nicky has not gone on to the heights that he felt was rightfully his by acclaim and rarely gets any playing minutes. He's another player that doesn't cut it at the higher levels.
One in four for West Ham in the championship that's with his injuries and then bit part player to Maynard and the other one (can't remember his name) and Cole. One in three for us in the championship, and a majority of that he played a lone striker One in two for us in the first division. With West Ham and us, he had a lot of injuries so I wouldn't right him off just yet. I can remember the West Ham fans complaining about him signing for us because they wanted to see more of him.
