    Salford City v Leeds Utd

    Tuesday 13th August 2019 17.45pm | Peninsula Stadium

Salford City, co-owned by six former Manchester United players, will host Leeds on Tuesday Evening in the first round of the Carabao Cup. The newly appointed league Club not only find themselves in this competition for the first time, but this will be the only time these two clubs have met!

Salford have had a steady start to their season. They beat Stevenage at home 2-0 on the opening day of the season, but lost by the same scoreline at Crawley Town last weekend.

Undoubtedly Bielsa will select the players who have had limited or no game time yet! Expect to see the likes of Shackleton, Alioski, Costa, Clarke and Stevens. Berardi is also available for selection after completing his ban. It will be interesting to see whether the gaffer gives debut's to new signings Eddie Nketiah and 6'6 French keeper Illan Meslier.

I'm prolly in a minority, but I'm not convinced that Eddie will start. He knows bugger all about Bielsaball, so his normal runs might well confuse & disrupt our pattern of play. He needs a bare minimum 1 week in training to even sit on the bench imo.

Looking forward to seeing the likes of Meslier in goal; Struijk lining up with Berra in defence; Gotts & Davies as FBs, & McCalmont as KP.

Midfield should surely have Shacks lining up in the middle. Think he may have an experienced hand alongside him there in the form of Costa, but personally I'd prefer Bogusz. On the wings, it's a difficult choice. It's 2 from Costa (if not playing #10), Alioski, Stevens & Clarke if he isn't.

Surprisingly, I think we might see Bamford selected up front, in the hope he'll score & boost his confidence / get some of the eejits of his back.

The bench should be an interesting mix of new & old & perhaps Eddie might get a seat. I'm hoping Kenneh gets a run out too.

So, my guess at the starting lineup is:

    ..................... Meslier
    Gotts ....... Berra ....... Struijk ....... Davis
    .................... McCalmont
Costa ...Shackleton ... Bogusz ... Alioski
    .................... Bamford

Calm down Eire, we've only had him three days.Hopefully yes but with Bielsa maybe not.

    -----------------Meslier----------------

    Hossanah--Berardi--Struijk--Alioski

    Clarke---Stevens---Bogusz---Costa

    -----------Mujica-----Eddie-------------

    Subs

    Stevens
    Edmondson
    Masiak
    Shackleton
    McCalmont

There's 45m of talent in Clarke, Costa and Eddie alone.

Can see your point WJ about Eddie and I think you might be right but I am hoping you're wrong and that he gets a run out.

Bamford is far too injury prone, if not Eddie then one of the U23's

I'm looking forward to this game more than I was the Bristol and Forest games, I'm really looking forward to seeing what Costa and Bogusz have to offer

Genuine question, for I don't know the answer: why is Bamford considered to be injury-prone? He had 2 serious injuries with us last season, which can happen to anyone. Has he got a history of missing games through injury with other clubs?

Great lineup for the u23’s but far too experimental for this match.

And he’ll never have two up top.

    Fine, push Costa forward...

I would like to see Costa operate between left midfield and left wing

It’s a lineup that’s gives the impression we’re not taking this competition seriously.

We can’t lose against Scum City, it would be embarrassing.

It's the impression I get, I thought the same about Roofe to be honest, maybe I am being unfair on him, maybe it is because he looks like one of those sicky kids you always got at school.

EDIT*** Just looked up "Patrick Bamford Injury" and found this link https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/patrick-bamford/verletzungen/spieler/183334 is that really the only injuries he has suffered?
