Mamadou Sakho reveals he's happy at Liverpool FC after initial frustration with language

“Man of character” Mamadou Sakho has revealed his happiness at being at Liverpool FC - now his frustrations over the language barrier have disappeared.

The Frenchman arrived from Paris St-Germain in the summer of 2013 and, after a period of adapting to the club, is now first-choice in Brendan Rodgers’ back three alongsideMartin Skrtel and Emre Can.

It is a big turnaround for Sakho, who spent the first half of the season struggling with injuries, and was also left out of the squad for the Merseyside derby at Anfield in September - prompting the defender to leave the stadium before kick-off.

Sakho, who is preparing for France’s Euro 2016 qualifier against Denmark, as well as a friendly against Brazil, says he’s now happy at the Reds.

“I feel good,” Sakho reportedly told L’Equipe.

“Language (was a problem initially). I am a man of character so I feel frustrated when I cannot express myself; and it becomes worse when others fail to understand me.

“Some told me to speak French, as it would have allowed me to feel a little more free. But when I spoke French on the pitch for substitutes and stuff like that, no one understood me.

“I told myself, ‘it is useless, I really need to learn (English)’. It took me a while but now it’s fine.”

Great news, and his new found happiness is sowing in his football.

Great, another chance for me to big him up.

Only he and Migs could hold their heads up high after the terrible performance against United.

The guy is a leader and absolutely quality - should be captain next year.

Really cannot understand how anyone does not think he's our best defender.

I totally agree. He's got prowess and power, but a cool head (most of the time :p). He really is our best defender by miles, but the majority just see his big gangly legs and automatically think he's awful on the ball and always nervous. If you actually watch him though, like in the vid you just posted, he's neither.

Seems obvious but a young CB coming into the team for big money and not speaking a word of English? Of course he was going to struggle to start with.

He'd shown with PSG and France that he has obvious quality though and a good injury free run with a settle defence has really shown that now.

Watched the Man U game with my Dad and it was the first time he's actually said that Sakho looks a good player and that he impressed him.
Personally I've always thought he'd turn good. If Hendo is to be the cpt, then Sakho to be vice

All we need to do now is actually get him a partner who is decent in a back 4.

But not only that, we need a DM. We have not replaced Mascherano who left around 4-5 years ago! It's crucial to every team.

Can Emre Can be that DM?

Right now I'd stick to our current system, even going into next season. Its working so why change it?

We can then use funds to improve in midfield and up front.

Can could play that role but think he lacks discipline - his instinct will be to get forward. I think he and Henderson are too similar to play as a 2 - unless they have a dedicated DM behind.

    Carvalho

    Hendo and Can

Now that would be a ridiculous midfield!
