Fresh from a week with three games (7 from 9 points) we now have a week’s break until Citeh visit St Mary’s:

On Saturday 15th, sublimely sweet smelling Saints host that malodorous musky miasma, Manchester City.

Last game, Saints held on for a frenetic last few minutes against a barrage from a typical Pulis setup of giants to win 1-0 at the Hawthorns. Will we do it again against the silky smooth mancs?

Saints recent form in the league: LWWLDWW
City recent form in the league: WWDDDLW

Saints are 9th in the Premier League, City are 4th. They have 21 more points than us, so with eight games still to play (one game in hand) they are very much in our sights to overtake.

In the reverse fixture, we drew 1-1 at the Etihaad with a gorgeous snatched goal from Nathan Redmond.

Players injured and believed to be unavailable (even if back in training):

    Matt Targett
    Virgil van Dijk
    Charlie Austin
    Alex McCarthy
Manolo Gabbiadini – getting better but not risked at WBA; a week more may see him back.

Steven Davis's knock sounds like a bad 'un - may be out for a while.

    Players suspended and definitely unavailable:

Oriol Romeu spends this game on the naughty step for kicking the other boys.

    Referee: Neil Swarbrick
    Assistants: S Ledger, A Holmes
    Fourth official: Graham Scott

City seem not to be the force they were in previous seasons. They come to us out of a run of games where they have gained 6 points from 15 (we have 10 from 15).

Saints come into the match flying now we’ve started our traditional end-of-season rush of wins. Given the injury and suspension list above, we’re performing at a truly wonderful level. Second-string players are buzzing and taking the chance to earn their places in our starting line-up. We’ll stuff ‘em and I'll be doing another thread next Sunday.

    COYR!

Pretty much polar opposite of our last match. From the height and physicality of west brom to the pace and trickery of City.

We'll have to be solid in possession as they can turn defense into attack in an instant.
Unless Gabbi returns to fitness I expect an unchanged starting line up

Good stuff Vin, I like a poster who gets the next match thread up within a day <ok>

I'm going to this one, and sat in the unusual terroritory of Itchen block 10, should be a good game.

    Anyone going pub?

Also, I'm suprised you fancy us here Vin, I'm sure they're favourites and they are significantly better than us ;) <whistle>

I bet you are surprised indeed; it's so out of character for me to be bullish.

I'm struggling hard to think of an occasion when I didn't expect us to win. But then that's pretty much my opinion about life in general.

    Here's a bore-fest for you.

First competitive game against Manchester City - 1910 FA Cup 2nd Round (home) lost 0-5

    First league meeting 1926-27 League Division Two - (H) draw 1-1 (A) won 4-3

Biggest defeat 1927-28 League Division Two away lost 1-6

Biggest win 1960 FA Cup 3rd Round away won 5-1

    Last league double - Saints 2002-03 Premier League (H) 2-0, (A) 1-0, Man City 2014-15 Premier League (H) 0-3, (A) 0-2

    League totals: Saints won 27, Man City won 27, draws 23 - Goals-Saints 104 Man City 110

    Cup totals: Saints won 4, Man City won 2 draws 2 - Goals-Saints 17 Man City 14

Now I can't be accused of being negative or anything other than factual and boring. Most of you probably aren't in the slightest interested in the above but I feel it's the best way to go for me. :emoticon-0105-wink:

It's not quite as boring as my list of players heights, but it's close!

Gabbiadini to be back and to have a field day against a poor defence and goalkeeper :emoticon-0148-yes:

So if I am right, a 7-0 win will mean we have won more than them and scored more than them :)

7-0 it is then. Gabbi 3, Long 2 (after 85 attempts) and Redmond 2

If you include the cup games we have won more but are 3 goals behind overall. I'll go for a 4-0

I'm with you, but as we are at home, clearly 7-0is more realistic [emoji38](no blue ink on mobile app)

You didn't include our first ever game in the top flight: 22nd August 1966 League Division One (H) 1-1!

And our first game. I was in the Archers end, buried amongst a load of adults until they ferried me down to the wall and sat me on it. :)
