Kelvin Davis - 7, Another superb display and couldn't do anything about the goal Frazer Richardson - 5, Lacking something today Jose Fonte - 6, Decent performance but not his greatest Jos Hooiveld - 7, Solid at the back once again, perhaps could have put a tackle in for the equaliser though Dan Harding - 6, A Decent start but faded. Will need to improve if rumours about Fox are true Guly do Prado - 6, Im sorry but he was once again poor today Morgan Schneiderlin - 7, Kept things ticking over in midfield Dean Hammond - 6, A good first half but faded in the 2nd Adam Lallana - 7, A good game although bit off the pace by the end Rickie Lambert - 8, Great goal but again faded towards the end Tadanari Lee - 8, Love the guy. His bow was priceless! Steve De Ridder - 8, Good cross and generally looked lively Billy Sharp & Jack Cork - Didn;t have much to do Post your ratings below. EDIT: These have been changed on better reflection of the game!
Did you go to the game?.... I only ask cos I dissagree with alot of the ratings. Harding (4 rating) and Richardson (5 rating) had poor games. Harding in particular (who I have always thought was a trusty back-up to Fox) was truely aweful, worst player on the pitch, made repeated mistakes throughout the game and his set piece delivery was continually woeful. God I hope Fox is back for the run-in otherwise this is where teams will constantly attack. Actually thought Fonte looked an improvement to the last few weeks, generally composed performance - 7 Guly, Guly, Guly. Here we do again with the Guly bashing. Out of almost everyone in the first half he put in the most effort (except for possible Chung!) and defended really well. Yes he missed a few chances as the game went on but his general play was good. The amount of times Adkins came out and applauded him along with the fans says it all really. No reason not to give him a 7. Hammond was simply not involved in this game at all. Did anyone else that went notice the amount of time Hammond spent on the deck after falling over?! Crazy, but anyway, not an aweful performance but poor - 5. Our 2 biggest treats (other than Lambert ofc) were Chung (Lee) and Steeeeve - 8's. Chung has a great turn of pace, held the ball up well and was a continued threat and out ball who linked up superbly with Lambert. Steeeeve made a huge impact once he came on and changed the run of the game. He was the only one second half who made me think something positive could happen with Saints going forward. Other than that...... Davis (7/8), Hoover (6), Scheiderlin (7), Lala (7) and Rickie (7)... Thought Billy Sharp looked very average but then he didn't get much time so wouldn't really be fair to judge. Accept that it's ok to have differing opinions and appreciate your views but come on a 5 for Guly... all credibility was lost once I read that I'm afraid.
If words such as "superb display" and "Love the guy" get only a 7 from you, what do you say about the people you rate 8,9 or 10!?...(That´s if you ever rate that high)
Oh I was there, and everyone sees the game differently, thats why I like reading everyones ratings to see how they saw the game and what they thought!
Fair enough. Was a bit tongue in cheek that comment to be honest The main reason I felt I should comment was the Guly thing. Can't believe you honestly think he was that poor??? Not if your looking at it without the 'Guly hater' specs on?
Hahaha I've had worse believe me! No, I like Guly when he was on form believe you me but I just think he didn't offer much tonight to be honest
Ha. I'm sure you have. I think a part of Guly's game that has come on really well since he's come here is his defensive play. Was top notch tonight if you ask me. Yes he can be frustrating when going forward but he's always got the potential of a goal in him or a bit of magic. Mix that with his new defensive skills I think he's an almost guarenteed starter for me
Haha. Yeah I know how your feeling! Hopefully things will seem rosier in the morning, they inevitably do!
I agree with Cortese... Guly was decent tonight. Yes he missed chances but didn't Adam too? Cut the guy some slack.
I thought Guly was good in the first half, but in the second half he looked tired and came inside SO much. First half I would say 7/10, second half 5/10. Frazer Richardson was 1vs2 all through the second half, until De Ridder came on and pinned their left back back. Lee was industrious, made some great touches and runs and looks a real handful, I would hate to be playing against him. He was probably our best player (Other than Morgan the magnificent who was superb yet again.) I agree with what someone said about Deano having a fairly quiet game, although I think 5/10 was a bit harsh he was at least a 6. I think we really missed Chaplows energy and pace in midfield tonight. If I could sum up tonight, I am not too disappointed. Ipswich are a side in great form, and for most of the game we completely outplayed them. If we had had the rub of the green it would have been about 5-0. Special note to Lallana for being a complete and utter legend. He was electric all game, if only he had put one of his many chances away.
Davis 7 Richardson 5 Fonte 7 Hooivelt 6 Harding 5 Guly 7.5 Hammond 6 Schneiderlin 6.5 Lallana 6 Lambert 7 Lee 8 De Ridder 7.5 Sharp 6 Cork 6 Again we badly missed Chaplow, who adds energy and balance to the side. Cant see why people thought Guly was poor tonight, especially in the first half i thought he was one of our better players. Lallana looked bright for the first 20 minutes, but the full back got the better of him after that. Richardson and Harding both had poor matches,to be honest i thought Richardson was probably the our worst performer on the night, always seemed to give the ball away. Sat it the Itchen tonight as i had a couple of complimentarys, jesus it is quiet over there, but thankfully back in the Kingsland on Saturday.
We are in form too. Them being in form shouldn't be n excuse for bleeding points. Are we going to willingly give a point or three to Reading next month because they're in form too? We're unbeaten in 6, which is great, but only half of those are wins.
Davis 7 Richardson 5 Fonte 7 Hooiveld 6 Harding 4 Guly 3 Hammond 6 Schneiderlin 7 Lallana 7 Lambert 7 Lee 8 De Ridder 7 Sharp 5 Cork N/A Tadanari Lee simply wonderful, no wonder he's starting ahead of Sharp. Excellent work rate (typical Japanese) and his movement off the shoulder of the last defender is up there with Pippo Inzaghi. Guly... I really don't understand how anyone can stick up for the guy. Consistently woeful and extraordinarily lazy. Someone mentioned Nigel applauding him - in the first half I could see Nigel screaming at him for not tracking back. I remember Nige saying a while De Ridder needed to learn to track back and defend - ie 'the English game' - if so then why the hell is Guly exempt from this?! Terrible, his miss was shocking as well. I know some people see him as a 'luxury' player but tbh those are the exact players I cannot stand. They should produce regularly and maybe have one poor/average game in 10/15, not on good game in 15. Really can't warm to the guy I'm afraid. De Ridder - class when he came one, glad he shut up some of the people who were berating him on here yesterday. Undoubted talent, if Nige played him regularly instead of that donkey Guly the fans would have a different perception, guaranteed. Both full backs were pretty poor tonight, Harding had a terrible second half and Frazier just never got nto the flow. But Frazier has been pretty consistent all season so he was also due a less impressive game, and Harding... well again you never know what you're going to get with him. Did some good work (some of the balls over the top to Lee were good, as was some of his tackling), but then does ridiculous things that put the whole team under pressure. Don't think Hammond was anywhere as bad as people are making out (still prefer Cork though), and overall I'd say Saints were unlucky to lose. Dominated the first half and defended relatively well for most of the second - their goal was lucky and Hooiveld and Harding should probably have done better, but we're not gonna win every game. COYR
He ran all over the pitch for the team in the first half. He made more tackles and interceptions then the whole team put together. What the **** are you on about? He was the stand out player defensively first half by a mile. He was trying everything to get involved in attack, tucking inside or playing higher. Even going wider but the rest of the team weren't involving him and Richardson anywhere near enough. Not his fault at all We kept forcing attacks down the left through Lallana or long balls to Lambert or Lee. As a result Guly couldn't get into the game into the attack down the right at all which wasn't his fault. He was the only player first half wanting to play the ball along the ground as well other than Lallana. He was also wary to cover Richardson and fill in at RB if Richardson got pulled out of position. Reason he came off was because he'd run himself into the ground more than anything else. This is coming from one of his biggest critics earlier in the season. You can also check my post history along with what I think of Harding who I thought was ok today, he was out of gas at the end and the goal was more the defence's fault as a whole (*not Richardson obviously but the CB's should have pressed earlier and players could have backtracked quicker) for not pressing the man on the ball. Davis 7 Richardson 5 - Couldn't get into the game much and looked shaky in defence. Dived in off his feet and left for dead a couple of teams first half and bailed out by Guly one time, other time we got lucky Fonte 6 Hoovield 6 - Solid defensively but just punted it long all game so loses a mark for that. Harding 6 - Him and Fonte just about OK. Guly 7.5 - Tried to force himself into the game, team decided to play long ball or only involve Lallana. Despite this frustration Guly provided great cover defensively particularly first half. Hammond 6 Morgan 6 Lallana 7.5 - Played really well apart from struggling to putt the ball in the net! Lambert 7 - Because he got the goal it kind of hides the fact he was a little off the pace. Lee 7 - Excellent work rate much like Guly but didn't do enough with the ball once he ran onto it De Ridder- 7.5- Got the assist, looked dangerous (and his usual clumsy self) Cork and Sharp N/A- Cork was supposed to come on to sure things up down the left which he didn't do well enough. We must stop booting it long to Sharp.. Summary- I think as a team we got our tactics wrong. There was far too many long balls tonight, at times we were playing hoof ball. Guly in particular always looked to play it along the ground, Lallana as well quite a lot but other than that the rest of them far too many long balls.
I thought Guly had a great game defensively. He had a blinder first half in terms of tackles won and interceptions as well as headers won. For anyone to over-look that is ridiculous and shows a complete lack of knowledge for the game. Either that or they were sat too far away to see properly (or just have it in for him). I thought the amount of long balls today was a joke by the team, and almost all game the team tried to force the attacks down the left first half which seemed to be annoying Richardson and Guly a bit
Be fair to the lad. That's a usual performance from him. Davis - 8 Richardson - 5 Fonte - 6 Hooiveld - 5 Harding - 5 Guly - 8 Hammond - 6 Morgan - 7 Lallana - 8 Lambert - 6 Lee - 8 And yet despite that 8, I'd drop Lee for the next game. We moved too far away from our successive, pass it on the ground, style yeserday.
