Hello and welcome to the 'Saints v Aston Villa positive, there is no way we are getting relegated and we are looking up not down' thread! Saturday sees the meeting of the second out of three claret and blue teams that we meet on the trot. POSITIVE - We have never lost to two claret and blue teams on the trot Saints go into this on the back of an unfortunate defeat to Burnley, where the weather played a big part in the result. As did we, the less positive vibes from this forum and the ridiculous mention of the R word put it 'out there' to the universe that we were worried. End result, we lost. POSITIVE - Think positive thoughts and positive things happen. Have you ever met a negative billionaire? We are still 7, yes SEVEN points clear from the bottom three, with 6 yes SIX teams ALL needing to gain more points in varying amounts over us in the next 12 games to put us in the mire. POSITIVE - It just isn't happening Villa come into this on the back of two defeats, though to be fair VAR may have helped their opposition in the last game POSITIVE - VAR has been our 12th man and probably is just behind Jack Stephens as our best defender Saints may have not won their last 2 league fixtures, but we are still playing great football and are a team to be feared. We can now start another great run to propel us back into the top half of the table. It looks like Redmond is out, but we have a rejuvenated Boufal if fit or a tricky (if the weather is better) Djenepo to replace him. POSITIVE - KWP looks ok. POSITIVE - With Redmond out it gives a chance for Boufal or Djenepo to shine! POSITIVE - It won't be raining on Saturday POSITIVE - INGs is on FIRE!! My team for Saturday: McCarthy KWP, Bedders, Stephens, Bertrand Armstrong, JWP, Pierre, Boufal/Djenepo Ings, Long We got this. No negativity or negative thoughts. We'll be 10 points clear of Villa come Saturday 5pm COYS
Southampton v Aston Villa Saturday 22nd February 2020 15:00 (3 p.m.) KO Referee: Craig Pawson. Assistants: Richard West, Nick Hopton. Fourth official: Keith Stroud. VAR: Simon Hooper. Assistant VAR: Andy Halliday.
Villa are very unpredictable at the moment (ermm... I guess we are too) but I think we will nick this one with Bednerak back. Northing really against Vesty - he did OK last week - but the Bedders / Stephens partnership seems to work really well.
I'm going to give up on the old "reverse jinx double-think kidology", accept that nothing I say or do is going to make a blind bit of difference to Saturday's result - and just admit now that I think we'll win.
Strangely Pawson was also in charge of the reverse fixture at Villa Park. I was there and I am going on Saturday. Therefore we WILL win 3-1.
Regret can’t get there for this one, (friends staying for the week end and not fans of the game) but home win is a certainty provided those morons who get on the team’s back within the first 10 min stay at home in the dry. Also despite last week’s effort we’re better than that and reckon 3-2.
Great thread starter No.7. Boufal has a thing about tables, so probably on one in the treatment room. He's not in the training pics today so possibly not going to make it for Saturday. With Redmond out that likely leaves Moussa Djenepo to be on for the whole match. Hopefully he will play like this and really turn it on .....
It's a blow to miss Redmond for several months, and if Boufal is injured that's a miss too as he's a different kind of attacker and currently 2nd choice in that position. In most positions we're in trouble if one player is out, but fortunately this is the position we are probably most stacked. I'm not sure who will start Djenepo or Obafemi, and Long could still move there if needed.
this goal suggests we need to get him in the middle a bit more He didn't seem keen on being out wide last week
