Well For his own sake of playing it would be in his best interest to Join Southampton. But as you say Fran, It would be nice to have a Signing of intent.. Which could mean that The Serie A team could be more willing with our Offer.
Well Solskjaer seems to think so, but I personally don't know if he'd be categorically better than our other defenders. He's left-footed so could add a bit more balance, we'd have two right-footers and two left-footers again, which seems to be what Adkins likes. If the reports he's been told he's got a first-team place are true then the club must think he's better than what we have I suppose.

Probably fancies coming to a club that has assessed him and want him rather than a weeks trial with no guarantee. Perhaps he's a little insulted and has now seen the DVD which I believe always includes a piece about the potential target.
@solentsport: BBC sources say #saintsfc have had £3.5m offer accepted for Vegard Forren, who they say has travelled to club with a view to transfer.

Seems to have good feet for a centre-half and likes a long pass and to get forward.
Looks good in the video but I think Aaron Martin would probably look decent against opposition like Aalesunds though
As I said earlier, I think it's more likely Liverpool decided against signing him, but that of course doesn't mean he can't improve us.

Hopefully he's a player who values first team football, because let's be fair he's not likely to break through Agger and Skrtel. Or, we're breaking the bank.
Rodgers had bothered to fly him here for a trial...I doubt they would have changed their mind sight unseen. Was said to want to see him with the first team...so definitely interested but not convinced. Not saying Liverpool would have taken him, but must be good if they wanted a looksie. However, no player at 24 wants to be put on trial, especially during an ever shortening window. Cortese always seem to make players feel wanted.
From what I know of him, which isn't much - I've only seen 45 minutes of him in a Europa League game and seen things written about him - but his best attributes aren't particularly physical, more mental. Reads the game very well with a very calm temperament, very good with the ball at his feet for a centre-back and can comfortably play full-back. Decent in the air and good in the challenge but not particularly exceptional at either. Might be tricky for him to adapt but hopefully not, if you're 6ft 5, built like a brick **** house and quick in Germany, you're gonna be 6 ft 5, built like a brick **** house and quick in England, but reading the game well in the Tippeligaen doesn't necessarily mean you'll read the game well in the Premier League.
Think he's a good signing though, regardless of those reservations.
Seems very much as if them pulling out came after our bid was accepted rather than the other way around. Think they wanted to have a look at him and try and snap him up on the cheap, but once we had a firm bid accepted they didn't have the cojones to step up to the table and battle it out with the big boys!
