Southampton are said to be keen on Brighton winger Will Buckley and Millwall defender Shane Lowry as they ponder January improvements.
Brighton winger Buckley, 23, has been in impressive form for the Championship side, scoring five goals in 20 games for the Seagulls so far this season.
Saints boss Nigel Adkins is reportedly set to test Brighton's resolve to keep him with a £2m offer for the player in the new year transfer window.
Buckley, who joined Brighton from Watford in the summer of 2011 for a then-club-record £1m, has been heavily linked with several Premier League sides in recent months but Saints are thought to be leading the chase for his signature, despite Brighton being intent on keeping him.
Millwall defender Lowry, meanwhile, is also on Southampton's radar and the club have sent scouts to watch him recently.
Lowry is under contract at Millwall until the summer of 2014 but an offer in the region of £1.5m may be enough to prise the Australian away, who would be keen to test himself in the top flight.
