According to BILD: http://www.bild.de/sport/fussball/schalke/england-wildert-weiter-42049200.bild.html Goretzka is a 6'3" central midfielder who wears the #8 for Schalke, and has represented Germany at every level from U16 to senior team. He's only twenty and has 34 appearances and 5 goals to his name. We've been watching him and are apparently now making our move... DTLW
Can't say I've ever seen him! Any thoughts from people that have? He does sound like a physical presence which we will need if vic picks up an injury
Stekelenburg; Cédric, Fonte, Van Dijk (likely), Bertrand; Clasie, Wanyama, Goretzka; Mané, Rodriguez, Tadić. I'll be right back, I just need an... ummm, a... errr... lie down.
I know this is from Wikipedia but I like the sound of this: Goretzka is referred to as one of the brightest football talents in German football. Peter Neururer, Goretzka's head coach at VfL Bochum, said that he had "never seen an eighteen year old footballer which had a potential as Goretzka" and titled him as the "talent of the century". Goretzka has a potent eye for scoring goals and is known to possess good ball control ability and also has the ability to pick out passes for his team-mates. Goretzka produces powerful shots from outside the penalty area, a trait similar to that of Paul Scholes. He is also well known for his excellent heading ability which sees him often score headed goals. At 6 feet 2 inches, Goretzka's high-jumping ability helps him to win aerial battles even against the strongest and tallest defenders. Goretzka's can be deployed as a defensive midfielder, as well as a left or right winger and in the position of playmaker
Never heard of him but if he plays for Germany's senior team at 20 he must be better than chopped liver. I'm in!
Goretzka would be a massive upgrade on Davis. No disrespect to Davis, but this is a no brainer for me.
He's a huge talent in world football, there is no way on hell we'd get him for what would be £13m. Upwards of £20m I imagine before they even listen.
To be honest, I'd see him as the true replacement for Morgan. Only one that gets forward and has better technical ability. That's my assessment before I know no more than what I've read here, so take it with a pinch of salt.
A midfield trio of Wanyama, Clasie and Goretzka has got me very excited! We'd have a better midfield then last season IMO. Morgan is better individually, but Goretzka is so much better than Davis it more than makes up for Morgan.
To be honest, Schalke would not be taking the piss if they asked for a similar fee for what we sold Morgan for.
Woah, you've just thrown in a young burgundy..... (Ps. My French colleague who flew in today exchanged the remaining euros I had lingering in my wallet for a nice bottle of Mersault and a bottle of Nuit St Georges!! A bit extravagent but I thought 'what the hell' being as one is from 7km South of our office and the other 10km North )
