Suspect it's more about those who went straight over to the wba fans rather than those who simply went on the pitch.
A very random question but what are peoples opinions on Saints hypothetically selling the naming rights to a company to become ____ St Marys? I ask as it is slowly becoming more common in this country and we are even seeing old traditional stadiums such as Twickenham become the Allianz Stadium in exchange for over £100m+. Saints would probably get somewhere between £3m-£10m a season. Fans would all still call it St Marys, so, would a bit of branding around the stadium and people on TV referring to it as the official name be worth a major signing every couple of seasons?
Yeah I mean. Football is all about money. We are struggling to be able to compete anyway and have done things that the club have been reticent to do in the past like get betting sponsors on the shirt because it brings in the most money. So why not. I'd still call it St.Marys as would all other fans.
Pretty much in agreement with all of this. Bit of a shame but if other clubs are doing it then we either accept we can't compete or join them. We have brands plastered all over the kit so why not stadium too?
Just got a pair of tickets for Brentford away, was surprised how few were left to be honest. I suspect they clear by the end of the day, maybe even in the morning window depending on how many are eligible in the 12+ aways category
Yeah I was thinking that 12+ aways is a lot and it would go much lower. But if you think about it, those with say 5 aways don't go much to away games whereas those with 12 go to more so they are more likely to try to go to every one if that makes sense.
With Hampshire, I almost always still refer to The Rose Bowl as either "The Rose Bowl" or "The Bowl". I don't call it "The Utilita Bowl", or "The Ageas Bowl" before that. But I'm fine about the club bringing in a few extra quid - makes no odds to me. So I imagine my feelings would be the same if Saints followed suit.
Didn't St Mary's used to be the Friends Provident St Mary's Stadium at one point, not long after it was built?
That was the name it was opened with. So slightly different to replacing, or amending, an existing name. I have a recollection that St Mary's was never intended to be part of the original name, and that it was going to simply be The Friends Provident Stadium.
I wonder what is holding up the Bednarek new contract from being signed? He seems very happy and very much a part of things here, has been prominent on the saints media and was straight back in the team on his return from the Euros. I expect him to sign it and maybe he has and we are just waiting to announce it for some reason?
I think RM intimated that it was being negotiated between the agent and the club, whereas KWP was a straight 'not interested' in negotiating
Yeah and I think RM said something along the lines of he expects him to sign it as he is happy. I guess I just assumed it would be a fairly quick process once he was back from the Euros!
I'm hoping that the fact that we sold out our full allocation of Newcastle tickets, plus the super fast selling out of Brentford means we'll take the full allocation permitted for games like Arsenal, Chelsea and Spurs. We always seem to get less tickets than bigger clubs.
