Gazza - 6 - didn't have much to do, had a few decent collections and pick ups

Clyne - 7 - few misplaced passes but looked better defensively and he likes a good burst forwards

Fonte - 7 - looked much better today. Won a lot in the air and wasn't such a liability with his passing

Yoshida - 8 - solid at the back, brilliant game

Fox - 5 - not great defensively again but not too bad going forwards. Not a fan of his long balls upfield though

Schneiderlin - 7 - good game in midfield, mostly fantastic passing and helped control the centre

Davis - 8 - looked good going forwards, good range of passing and helped out the defence well

Puncheon - 7 - good goal and could have got another a few minutes before. Didn't get as many balls into the box and lost it a few times out wide but an impressive second half performance from a player who keeps improving

Lallana - 6 - looked to lose the ball a lot in the first half. Improved in the second but not his best game. And should have put his left foot through a chance late on!

Ramirez - 10 - actually can't think of anything bad he did. Might seem a bit OTT but he really did have an outstanding game

Lambert - 8 - good hold up, didn't look as sharp as usual but scored two goals so can't complain :)

Gazzaniga - 6 Had nothing to do

Clyne - 7 Bad first half along with Puncheon but looked uber on the left second half

Fonte - 9 MOTM Solid the whole match and definitely making me eat humble pie

Yoshida - 8 As per Fonte but not as cool in possession as Jose

Fox - 1 As per usual Mr Hoofball

Davis - 7 Did what he needed to but nothing special IMO

Schneiderlin - 7 As per Davis

Ramirez - 8 Some great touches, great vision and close to MOTM

Puncheon - 7 Good second half but very poor first half

    Lambert - 8 Can't argue with 2 goals and 2 assists

Lallana - 8 Came to life once Fox had stopped hoofing the ball over his head.

Gazza - looked alright for his first Prem start, distribution was good. Gets a cup of tea!
Clyne - Bright going forward gives me the jitters going backwards! Cup of tea + a slice of cake
Yoshida - Not bad? Still undecided, needs to make friends with Fonte. Will leave on the front door step to become acquainted with eachother
    Fonte - Read above
Fox - Poor lad is colour blind kept thinking we were playing in yellow. Doesn't get past the front gate!
Schneiderlin - Good game but what do u expect, always has a good game. Gets a cup of tea + slice of cake and a look at the holiday snaps of the missus in her bikini!Davis - a real engine room type performance if unspectacular. Gets a cuppa but only in the garage while looking at my prized Vespa!
Ramirez - Oooohh baby, Class Class Class! Gets a cup of tea in our best china and gets to shag the wife afters! lol
Lallana - Wish he could put them away! Delightful to watch! Cuppa in best china but no shagging coz I don't think he's got it in him!
Puncheon - Another good game apart from the first half defensive confusion ran his socks off! Cuppa, chocolate biscuits and a good movie so he can relax!
Lambert - Our Hero! Gets a invite around the Fox and Hounds where I shall buy the lad a pint!

Richardson - Well couldn't do any worse than the woeful Fox - just a cuppa tho!
Ward-Prowse - What a prospect for the future! A can a fizzy pop and a read of the Beano! And I might fix his push bike for him!
Mayuka - Quick bright, looks neat and and again a good prospect! Ham sandwhich in the garden

Gazzaniga - 8 - Can't get higher because he only had to make easy saves, but his cross grabbing and distribution were superb.

Clyne - 7 - Looked good in the 2nd half, some ropey balls played out from the back though.

Fonte - 9 - Looking like the Fonte of league one again, unbeatable both on the deck and in the air.

Yoshida - 8 and a half Similar to Fonte but played some interesting balls across our own box that made my flinch!

Fox - 5 - Not brill, got skinned a few times and when he tried to play around with it he either got tackled or hoofed it.

Davis - 8 - Solid performance again, he's far more attacking than I thought he'd be.

Schneiderlin - 8 Another masterclass in tackling and passing, didn't do anything worldy though.

Ramirez - 9 - Unplayable at times, he has Lallana's feet with Lambert's strength and Schneiderlin's tacking and passing.

Puncheon - 8 - The single most frustrating footballer ever, had some stunning moments and some dire moments.

Lambert - 10 - Unplayable, he won everything, set up loads and scored 2!

Lallana - 9 - His skills were the only thing worth watching in the first half and in the 2nd half he was equally as brilliant.

Richardson - 8 - Solid performance good offensively as he didn't push too far up.

Mayuka - 8 - Good footballer made some nice runs and won a penalty.

JWP - 7 - Didn't have long but didn't make any major mistakes

Nigel - 10 - Did well in identifying the problem and acting on it, brave squad choice as well. He also acknowledged the fans throughout the game and in his post match press conference.

I would evaluate each player's performance on each half, as I think the first and second half performances were very different.

Gazzaniga - 6/6 - didn't have a lot to do, but was calm throughout and made no mistakes. Very confident handling and looks like he could be very good, too early to judge though.
Clyne - 6/8 - Had an excellent second half and very happy for him to get his goal, seemed to mean a lot to him
Yoshida - 6/7 - Solid performance, about as much as you could expect for a centre back who's moved countries and only been in training a week
Fonte - 7/7 - A good performance from the much critised man, looked a lot calmer than he has done and defended well.
Fox - 5 - Didn't see a lot from him, I don' think he particularly got beaten by his man, but the defence looked much better without him
Schneiderlin - 8/7 - excellent first half, played so well in the breaking up play and moving the ball on role, this was needed less in the second half so his influence diminished.
Davis - 7/7 - a solid performance, though didn't see anything particularly exceptional from him, I think we will see more from him as the season progresses.
Ramirez - 6/9 - fairly anonymous in the first half, Villa were on top of him for most of that, but as soon as he dropped deeper to get the ball in the second half he was sensational. Top class.
Puncheon - 5/8 - A poor first half with not much going right for him, and his passing and general final product was poor. A changed man in the second half, and absolutely terrorised Villa.
Lambert - 6/9 - Not very special in the first half, but showed his class in the second. This man should play 90 minutes every game.
Lallana - 5/8 - passing was poor in the first half, and seemed to lack a final ball, but he played very well in the second half although he should have put his chance away.

Richardson - 6 - Solid performance, didn't have a huge amount to do, but made no mistakes.
Mayuka - 9 - Very promising performance, looked a real threat and could prove to be an excellent option from the bench. Very impressed.
Ward-Prowse - 6 - Didn't have a lot to do really, pressed players and attempted to maintain possession well.

Gazzaniga - 7. Not really tested, but the distribution was good.

Clyne - 7 overall. Agree with fsdajoe's 6/8. Thought he might have found his role in the 2nd half.

Fonte - 7 I thought defense was a little disorganized in the first half and that is partly Fonte's fault. Benteke given too much space on corners. On the other hand, he made some big plays and won some vital headers when defense was under pressure early, and then he and Maya seemed to get straightened out in the second.

Yoshida - 7 Same as Fonte. It looked like he and Fonte got things straightened out toward the end so I'm feeling much better about defense now.

Fox - 4.5 Hate to say it, but he was terrible.

Davis - 7 Scrappy and hustled hard. Did a little bit of all the sorts of midfield things that need doing but that don't get you in the headlines. He's had some bad moments, but quite pleased with his acquisition overall.

Schneiderlin - 8 Looking very good. His tackling has improved immensely, though still has a little work to do on his defensive game overall. Would like to see him position himself a little better and win some headers or slow the opposition down a bit even when he isn't in position to make the tackle. Think that will come with experience though, and he has definitely impressed me with how much he has improved starting the second half of last season. On the offensive side, he's already fantastic, have no complaints there at all.

Ramirez - 9 MoM. Absolutely controlled the game. Took all the pressure off the defense with his ability to retain possession, plus made a series of brilliant passes. Not just a creative attacker today, but the midfield general. Also like that he is willing to come back deep to get the ball if needed and played some defense as well.

Puncheon - 6.5 Not the world's greatest footballing brain, but with Ramirez being the one to spread the ball it freed Puncheon up to do what he does best. Was okay overall today thanks to the second half, but gave away possession pointlessly time and again in the first half. Still not sure of his role in the future.

Lambert - 8.5 Typical solid Lambert performance.

Lallana - 8 Same as Lambert

Richardson - 7 A couple sketchy plays but solid overall and a big improvement over Fox/Clyne today.

Mayuka - 7 Not quite enough time to truly measure, but I liked what I saw.

JWP - 7 Same as Mayuka, although we've seen him play more in other games and I think he's going to be special. But just the 7 for today.

Nigel - 10 - Got everything right in the second half. Not afraid to make some key switches both before and during the game with a lot at stake.

Man of the match was Puncheon for me, he made some positive runs and played some tidy through balls early in the second half when we needed to get a goal quickly. I though Ramirez had a quiet first half. Yoshida looks an assured player and Fonte did well alongside him.

I have been very critical of Fox in the past, especially is distribution, however I did feel a bit sorry for him as when Lallana wandered he was left with nowhere to pass except sideways.

The thing that confuses me about these type of threads is when we are soundly beaten the ratings aren't low enough. But when win and play great the ratings aren't high enough.

Gazzaniga - 8 - Looked a real presence on crosses. People saying he didn't have much to do..well what he had to do he did very well. He made a 1on1 save which seems to have been forgotten. He had no chance on the goal conceded. Clever wasting time near the end too.
Clyne- 9- Extremely good today. I've been one of his critics but he was great today particularly second half. He was very dangerous on the attack, grabbed a goal and defended brilliantly.
    Fonte - 8.5
    Yoshida - 8.5
    both very solid.
The Cb's were left 2 vs 2 a hell of a lot in the first half and did extremely well to cope. One thing I noticed is when Clyne went forward down the right Fox would go extremely high down the left and we'd get caught. But when Fox went forward Clyne would stay back so we'd be ok when Villa counted. Not sure what planet Fox was on frankly.
    Fox - 3 - hopeless at times.
Richardson - 8 - Solid and smart in attack and defence.
Schneiderlin - 9 - Immense in midfield. Made countless tackles and interceptions. Ran himself into the ground. Completely relentless pressing in the midfield area.
    Davis - 8.5 - worked very hard
    Ward-Prowse- 8.5 - Excellent
Lallana - 8 - passing was poor at times or would have given him higher
Puncheon - 7.5 - Perhaps says more about how well the others played than Puncheon that he scored the lowest out of the attackers. still played decent. lost .5 for losing ball leading to goal (although wasn't entirely his fault)
Ramirez - 9 - Controlled the game superbly in the second half. Impressed
Lambert - 10 - Great in the air, undefendable at times and should have had 2 penalties, clipped by Dunne which looked like last man as well.
Mayuka- 8 - looked a threat, won the pen

Yoshida has been too highly rated by most of you. He lost his marker twice from successive corners and the Villa no. 20 was allowed free headers from 2 corners at the start of the 2nd half. We were extremely lucky not to concede a 2nd. Apart from that he did ok. I'd give him a 6. Clyne and Ramirez were the outstanding players. Very pleased that Rickie has 4 goals in 5 games. He's scored double the amount of the whole QPR team and 1 more than the whole Liverpool team!

Paulo Gazzaniga - 6, Didn't have much to do to be perfectly honest but distribution was good.

Nathaniel Clyne - 7, Much better at left-back in the second half, but poor first half
Jose Fonte - 7, Best performance of the season, worked very well with Yoshida
Maya Yoshia - 7, Very good debut and dominated the backline
Danny Fox - 4, Very poor today, and rightly taken off at HT

Morgan Schneiderlin - 8, Once again the hard worker of the side. Very impressive touches and movements
Steven Davis - 8, Worked very hard and was a real engine room in our midfield

Gaston Ramirez - 9 MOTM, Very promising display, He was everywhere with his sublime touches and movement

Jason Puncheon - 7, Poor first half but looked a real livewire second half and a great goal
Rickie Lambert - 8, Superb goal and a real nuisance to the backline
Adam Lallana - 7, Good game, but I wish he would shoot sometimes!

Frazer Richardson - 8, Changed the game and was good both attacking and defensively
Emmanuel Mayuka - 7, Looked good when he came on and caused problems

I thought both CB's handled themselves very well when we were caught on the counter which is why I marked them so high. Also Benteke was a massive aerial threat and I think even the best centre backs in the world would have struggled to deal with him in the air. We won almost everything in the air in open play so I have to give them the benefit of the doubt. Imo 6 is very harsh.. I agree we were very lucky that bullet header didn't go in.
