Saints or England?

Saints first mainly because when I watch the England matches I always think Saints play a more positive passing game!

The thing is though, I remember Euro96, and the way that it seemed to galvanise the country. 3lions on the shirt being sung with pride and for a change the flags didn't seem so cheesy when there was something to celebrate. And surely we can all remember the joy felt at the 5-1 in Germany's own back yard. Great times. I wonder if those who don't bother with England didn't feel something that night?

You wouldn't see Saints playing so many hopeful long balls forward and losing possession as cheaply as the England team consistently does. Obviously the England team is more talented than the Saints team, but they would definitely benefit from our philosophy of short, quick passing and keeping the ball. The attitude of the England team is that they would rather pump the ball towards the forwards and hope for the best than actually try and take the opposition on.

We need a manager and coaching staff who encourage playing a decent style of football, and I don't think you'll get that from an Italian. I don't necessarily think we need an English manager; just someone who understands and believes in a quick passing game.

Also, the central midfield partnership of Barry and Lampard is just far too immobile. You need at least one player in the middle who has decent pace and can take people on.

Back to the original question, Saints are far more important to me, but I can't imagine a better feeling than a World Cup victory.

I would hope they would steamroller Saints, but I was trying to point out how predictable and easy to defend against England are. Unlike Saints. My point was really, that if England had played a better standard of football over the last 20yrs or so, we all might be more enthusiastic about the national team. The quote below sums it up nicely.
And just to make it clear, Brazil might just have the edge on us as well.

Before the last world cup; I asked myself what was more important to me; England having another golden star on their shirts or Saints getting promotion. I have to admit; I was surprised with myself about just how much more important to me for Saints to get promotion; would willingly have (if given the choice) sacreficed all for that promotion.

Well I'm not English so......
 
I'd definitely rather see England win the World Cup than see Saints win the Carling Cup, because it's a stupid tournament anyway. Saints winning the Premier League or FA Cup would obviously take precedence though.
 
It would be interesting, to have had the internet 50 years ago and asked this question. I reckon most would have cheered on England, to win the world cup, then their club to win something good.

Even in cricket I want to see my team Sussex, win the CC, more than I want to see England winning the ashes, world cup etc.

The England football team, I couldn't care less, however. Bunch of overpaid party animals, who treat the tournaments like a pub team on tour.

I'd still like to see them win something, rather than Southampton though;);)
 
Saints promotion to pl > England world cup > saints cup success

Even if England are **** would love to see them lift a world cup in my life time and would happily sacrifice any saints cup success for it. Proud to be English and always want us to succeed.
 
The advantage us oldies have is that we've already seen England win the World Cup. It was a wonderful feeling that went along with the optimism of Britain in the sixties. We felt top of the world. Saints promotion has to take precedence now though.
