I have just moved house and am trying to downsize all my 'stuff' to fit. I have a box of Saints stuff going back to a programme dated February 27 1965. I also have the famous 9-3 programme from the same year. Anyway, there are loads of programmes, newspaper cuttings, letters from Managers (yes, I used to write to them!), videos, year books etc etc. I want them to go to a good home. If you are interested please let me know. The only stipulation I have is they are kept together and not sold.
Do the club not have some sort of museum that would take care of all your stuff? Why not give them a ring or email them to see.
That reminds of the old joke; "There has been a robbery at St Marys Stadium. Thieves have stolen the contents of the trophy room. Police are looking for four men carrying a glass cabinet and a red and white striped carpet.
Do they? Where is it? I'd like to go. I guess I could do that. Do you reckon they'd want the letter from Ian Branfoot? I reckon some of the early stuff might be interesting to them but not the video's etc.
I'd potentially be interested in some of it.... However I need to organise some storage space. I have nothing of any worth to pass on to my children so I'm collecting signed shirts and old programmes.... Let me know....
Well, its done. Exactly 50 years of Saints stuff gone (apart from some 1976 memories). Saintharry13 is a top bloke and not named after you know who. Plus he gave me a bottle of bubbly which was unexpected but well appreciated
Everyone on the forum seems to be friends these days! Crazy how many people seem to have met each other now. Kind of cool, in a weird internet forum geeky way, though.
Pleasure doing business.... Always nice to meet someone from here in person. An amazing array of bits to keep me amused. Many thanks....
I'm so glad someone popped up to take your stuff. I would have hated it if you'd suddenly said you'd taken them to a charity shop as no one had come forward. I was about to volunteer to take it all unless someone else put their hand up, but I really don't have the space. Thankfully, those precious bits of paper have a new home. When I left for NZ, back in the early 1990's I passed all my Saints programmes on to fellow fans. They were all in pristine condition as I used to carefully read them at the match then slide them flat into a coat pocket. If they got curled in any way I even resorted to a warm iron and towel to flatten the folds [what a nerd I could be]. I had several hundred in the end, dating back to about 1967, when I first decided to buy them. I barely missed a match programme. I still have a couple, like the 1976 Cup Final one. And of course, I had to buy MLT's testimonial match programme and the accompanying magazine. They're still in A1 perfect nick. None of those are going anywhere, until I shuffle my way out of this world.
I'm glad its all going to a good home and Saintharry will pass it on to his son. I kept FA Cup Final and Semi Final programmes plus 3rd round against Villa (I was right in line when Fisher shot). I also kept a 1968 yearbook which had all the players signatures (my mate's parents used to own The Gateway opposite The Dell which was frequented by the "Ale House team") and, of course, my Terry Paine fan club membership card! The first 2 programmes were from 1965 including the 9-3 against Wolves. I thought I'd be sad to see it all go, but I wasn't actually. The memories are still there and, having endured some truly dire Division One matches, often the memories are actually better than the real thing!
I came across a couple of Saints Speedway programmes from their final Championship winning season. They were my eldest brother's. He still has loads of those from the early 1950's right to the end. I must get around to re-uniting him with them. Think I borrowed them to scan the programmes to a Speedway history enthusiast on Saints Forever, and that's a few years ago. Anyone remember? Here's an example: please log in to view this image Strange to think of it these days, but in the pre and post war years, the Saints were easily as big a draw as the Saints football team. Indeed, many supporters would go to both. I can just remember the house practically emptying every Tuesday evening, leaving just me and my parents, as my older brothers and sisters would attend Bannister Court Stadium for a night of racing and Castro R. Although the speedway stadium was just a couple of hundred yards up the road from The Dell, and we lived in the suburbs, if the wind was in the right direction, one could hear the unsilenced roar [no silencers on racing bikes in those days] and smell of the bikes as they roared around the floodlit track. I can't remember 100% for sure being taken to Bannister Court although I think so. I was definitely taken to Wembley Stadium a couple of times for the World Championship Final. Note that the Bannister Court programme above is hosting World Championship eliminator semis. There would have been a corresponding eliminator up North. Possibly Belle Vue, in Manchester.
