Southampton are being linked with a move for centre-back Pontus Jansson, currently of Malmo. The 6ft 4in defender has represented Sweden's senior team on four occasions, and has also represented his country at U17, U19 and U21 levels. In total, he has 41 caps for his country and has scored 4 goals. Link: http://www.fotbollskanalen.se/england/premier-league-intresse-for-pontus-jansson/ DTLW
You'd probably expect that from me. One could say... I thought Lovren was fine..? Or one could say... Competition..! Besides, it's probably twaddle. Shall I mention Davide Astori..?
We tried bringing in a Scandinavian defender from a Scandinavian league in January before. Worked out fantastically as I recall. Oh no my mistake, he didn't make a single appearance.
I seem to remember a certain Swedish centre back on our books relatively recently who was outstanding for us.
What we need to ask ourselves is "Will maya and hoover be a good enough pairing for our CL games next season?".
It appears that he's actually back playing again, for old club Halmstads BK. Plus, he's the assistant manager.
I'm sure we look at players all the time, so we are aware of what people are like should we need them and should they be available, but doubt we have a serious need for a CB this season. Mauricio snorted (and David translated it into an snort in English) when asked if we were after a CB.
He must be one of the most dedicated and determined professional footballers around. His original serious injury was in 2004 and he has been trying to make a comeback ever since. Seems crazy to most, but fair play to him.
Looking at the stats on wiki it's crazy to think he only made 71 league appearances for us, given the impact he had. Such a shame.
