One year ago tomorrow (15/1/15), Nicola Cortese walked away from Saints... This piece from the Echo is great, and puts it perfectly. http://www.dailyecho.co.uk/sport/11721496.Saints__A_year_on_from_meltdown/ DTLW
My only question is: If KL was trying to keep Nicola (as it seems), she must have been happy with a lot of things he did, so why therefore has he been whitewashed from our history. There have been a couple of videos since then when even Nigel was visible, but NC wasn't mentioned or even shown.
Happy with what he did before he left is not the same as happy with him, or even happy with what he did after...
I always wonder if stuff came out afterwards, but I can't say it as it could be libellous. So you didn't read that
We were happy with what Twatbeard was doing, but his departure left a stain. I imagine Niccy's was a similar situation.
Didn't know where to put this, and considering the theme of our last year has been "We March On", thought this the most apt place to ask. Call me a saddo (haven't used that word since my playground days), but the drumming version of "We March On" in the stadium gets me fired up every time I hear it. Hoping you know the one i mean... Does anyone know of any uploads of this? I want to try and show it to a couple of colleagues who have started taking much more of an interest in Southampton recently and see if it has the same effect.
Reminds me of the Olympic Opening ceremony tune. Someone mentioned that it is on Youtube but cant find it anywhere. I'll try videoing at the next home game if no suggestions.
The meltdown was discussed with Fonte in the Mirror today. He said he would be lying if he said he wasn't worried, but he began to feel differently when Koeman, Tadic and Pelle came. He said that the Morgan saga was difficult, but then Morgan's head changed and he knew it was going to be alright. http://www.mirror.co.uk/sport/football/news/southampton-captain-jose-fonte-admits-5001296
One tune I do like is the Barclays Premier League anthem [Gloria]. It's arranged to have real gusto and event atmosphere. Although It's kind of corny, it's perfect in its setting. If you've never heard it [find that hard to believe] it's this one. This is a truncated version but contains most of the elements, if not all the build up:
Yep, know this one. Have got used to hearing it as they show the highlights of our latest win post-match on streaming sites.
I have so many Saints matches in my collection now where it blares out. It's an insistent galloping tune, and when it winds up to the great crescendo at the end of the programme, it feels a bit naughty to stop it in its tracks, so I invariably let it carry on to the end. It's usually accompanied by great Saints goals from the match, so it's no hardship. Think they had to arrange an extended version for the 8-0 though.
Perhaps Cortese was looking for an excuse to move on. Pretty sure he'll be doing nicely in some other business and also be living back in Switzerland.
