Looks like Connolly was offside when he put the ball in the net unless there was a defender out of shot
nice little showcase of Lamberts talents, shows a good header, pass, shot and good dribling what a player!
Lambert was top drawer yesterday. Showed Le Tiss level of skill to take a goalkick from Kelv down, kill it stone dead at his feet, all this with two defenders around him. Awesome. He is getting better & better
Connolly was ahead of the last Burnley outfield player when Rickie hit his shot, under the current rules was not technically interfering with play as he was nowhere near in line with the shot, when the ball came back to him he was onside, but the lino had already deemed him to be offside when Lambos shot whistled past him, maybe if we had made more of a fuss and asked the referee to clarify with the lino it might have been given. Hypothetical now and doesn't matter unless we need goal difference to settle things at the end of the season.
He was offside. If you are in an offside position and the ball comes back to you from a rebound you are offside.
You could argue that whatever you're doing counts as interfering with play because you affect where defenders are positioned and such. But he was definitely offside, a competent linesman would rule that offside 10 times out of 10.
Which is exactly why I've always considered the interfering with play ruling to be as weak as water. If a player isn't interfering with play, even to the minutest extent, he shouldn't be on the pitch. BTW, ta CBK for the link.
I was livid at the time as I thought Connolly was behind the ball when Lambert struck it. Lino however was correct!
Well it was more against the lino and the fact that I felt we deserved a third goal for all our pressure! Overall I was still, like the rest of the stadium pretty content at that point.
Check my CV at 64 I think I am a bit too old to run the line theses days, when I did run the line, many moons ago, it would have been offside, unquestionably, its how you interpret the "interfering with play" bit, it is a bit of a grey area. My opinion was that it was correctly given offside in this case, but I could be wrong!
Yes, I agree, he is getting better with age. I said a couple of years ago that he reminds me of Teddy Sheringham, where all of his speed is in his brain, technique and control. I think that he is a better all round player than Grant Holt and he could emulate Sheringham and play at the top level until his mid to late 30's. He has played in midfield before and has the vision and passing that comes with playing there.
Yeah not sure why there would be any confusion. He was offside when the shot was hit, and the ball fell to him. Just as he would be offside had it been an intentional pass.
