We really have got to stop SaintMagic and Tom going early on these 'Saint...!' threads. We are on a terrible run, that's now Bijlow, O'Riley and Carvalho <laugh>
I got pelters when I spoke up about this. I was told in no uncertain terms that all these premature threads were the way it always used to be and actually splitting them out once confirmed was only the new way. I was accused of having “a narrative” (or maybe it was an agenda) simply because I didn’t really like it and made two (count them, two) posts about it. This would be the third. So i guess means I firmly have one now. Or whatever the next step up is

Although the run isn’t that terrible because haven’t there been at least two or three confirmed ones in between? Meaning the last bunch have been about 50% hit rate?

Some of them do seem like they warrant split discussion but some people are used the the “Saint” part meaning they are done deal because of a couple of years of that being the case (even if it is not a long time in the grand scheme of things)

Well, on a serious note, at least we've learned our lesson and aren't compromising if we are uncomfortable enough with a medical to have significant concerns about going through with a deal. Now let's sort out an alternative. Three days is plenty of time in Football Transfer World
I think our medical team should get far more stick for Juan Larios than Stewart. Something is clearly wrong with him and he was always very slight anyway. Whether it’s the medical team who conducted it or those who have managed his injuries or both. There seems to be a real problem there. And for all the stick, wasn’t the fee similar for Stewart?

Looks that way, although negotiations with Arsenal will be tricky.

We may be more stuffed now with Arsenal knowing we don’t have many other options.

Unless the Ramsdale deal has been working pretty much in parallel with this one.

Interesting few days ahead.

Arsenal don't have many options either, for what it's worth. They've also got their next GK queued up and waiting for Ramsdale to go...

We could just go get the dude from Spain instead then!

I do wonder if we wanted Ramsdale all along - we seem to have gone for a lot of British players.

In fairness, if you'd said to any Saints fan that your goalkeeper this season will be Aaron Ramsdale, they'd all have bitten off Ross Stewart's remaining leg for it.

Far more likely we get Rushworth/Steele from Brighton, I would suggest. I just don't see there being a middle ground that's achievable in the timeframe and appealing to all parties (inc. AR) - Brighton will have a surplus and they will want to play

I suspect you'd know a lot better than us but I think this in bold is key and might work in our favour. If I was Ramsdale I don't think I'd want an obligation to buy next summer included.

Or maybe he just stays where he is and gets more annoyed.

Taking my Saints-tinted specs off, I can't see why being a permanent Southampton player is particularly appealing. Unless he gets a nice pay rise if/when his deal gets made permanent (can't see us agreeing to that given RM's wage structure comments) and it has some release clauses in it for offers of a certain size (again, not sure if we'd agree)

Yeah, I agree on the pay rise/release clause. I can see the advantage to him of a loan with an option to buy. He plays, gets himself in the shop window and can see what his options are next summer. Agreeing a permanent transfer seems much less appealing.

Whether Arsenal shift on things presumably depends on the details of their relationship with him, Arteta's views on having unhappy players around and a bunch of other factors I have no idea about.

If Ramsdale signs, then it'll take one game where he faffs about it with it at his feet, gets pressured into a mistake and concedes a soft goal and it'll be 'Why did we sign him he's crap?'

I will qualify this with my last post saying about the injuries to the other fella not being a problem about mere seconds before the post about him being rejected due to his injury/injuries.

A masterclass in proving you know nothing and should really keep your mouth clamped firmly shut.

We even broke Fabrizio Romano on this one!

didn’t he hedge his bets with “here we go soon” on this? Terrified to miss a scoop but suddenly it means that actually no one really knows whether he has a scoop or not anymore. Works out well for him though

He rarely has the scoop. A majority of his stuff is just because he follows tonnes of other local journalists who are really well-versed on their patches and then amplifies whatever they say to his huge audience, saving people time hunting for news rather than actually being a news gatherer. Of course his audience size now means that agents will look to leak stuff to him, but that's the basic premise of his output really

Personally, based on the way we play, I would far prefer us to sign Rushworth over Ramsdale.
He is the one who fits with our philosophy and recruitment strategy most, I would suggest. Not sure Brighton sell though. If you were loaning from Brighton you’d go for Steele, if you were buying you’d go for Rushworth, I think is a fair summary
