This excites me! Gunn Valery Vestergaard Bednarek Bertrand Romeu Hojbjerg Redmond Djepenio Adams Ings
I'd still be a bit concerned about the defence. And we'd need Adams and Djenepo to both hit the ground running which is no guarantee given their age. We're heading in very much the right direction but better to see who else we bring in this window.
Vestergaard Bednarek in a back 2 is very dodgy. None of our defenders are really suited to a flat back 2.
We're very unlikely bot to have players who underperform or get injured. So even if he's not first choice at the start if the season prowse will get in the team if he plays well. It's looking hard for Sims though.
"We're Going To Win 4-3, We're Going To Win 4-3, 4-3 We're Going To Win 4-3!" That central defence would be demolished, two very slow defenders
Particularly a flat back two that maintains a high line, and often will play with two CMs ahead, at least one of which is more attack-minded than defensive, and two attacking fullbacks. CB certainly remains a top priority, and if we're going to acquire another midfielder at some point, I'd suggest that we could do with a stay-at-home screener for the CBs.
Love Maya; but let's be honest, when we agree he has been our best CB, it's not exactly a ringing endorsement when you look at who we comparing him against. Bednarek, for me, looks to have great potential. Looking foward to watching him this season.
Fair point but it is strange that he has been our best/most consistent defender yet still isn't even considered as an option. I agree Bednarek should start ahead of him, but mainly due to the fact he is young and will improve with age rather than him being far better. As it stands I'd have Yoshida alongside Bednarek in a back 4. Although I'd like to sign someone better to start with Bednarek.
Agree with on all you have written here. Maya and Bednarek would be my two starting CB's out of what we have, have never understood why Maya has been overlooked so much. He has a mistake in him nearly every game, l will admit, but his pace and his commitment are unquestionable. Sorry to repeat myself but Bednarek, for me, looks one heck of a good player on the making. Again, bemused, why it took so long for him to get a start, when you look at who were keeping him out.
Agreed. Ralph made us better overall, but our defense was still an absolute mess: 1.57 goals/against per match, versus 1.73 under Hughes. I'm certainly not pointing the finger at him for that, but if we want to be a top half team, we badly need to upgrade our defense.
In an idea world I would bin all our CBs and start again as I don’t rate any of them for different reasons but life isn’t like that so I would shift Hoedt and Stephens now. Vestergaard and Yoshie next then Bedders (only because he is too slow to play EPL)
