I would like to believe that we would be safe with one more point, however I believe we need 3-4 points to ensure we are in this division next season. I also believe we need to get those points in our next two games both being at home, I can't see us getting anything against Watford on the last day of the season or at home to Brighton or away to Birmingham. Tuesday 16th April - secure our position in this division then get a new manager in before the weekend and he can have three competitive games to take a close look at us in preparation for a good pre-season.
I don't think we have too much to worry about. But I would like us to get a full 3pts at home against the Wendies. Just makes life easier & saves a load of unnecessary crap o here, as well as some unwanted pressure in the final few games
Should be ok if as ristac says and we pick up three points somewhere. However the is a real danger we won't get them as we are awful in every game now. Added to he fact that redfearn was terrible in his last period as interim manager. Saturday could well be the best chance of the three points
The thing is Ristac, we are Leeds United and we usually beat the harder teams and lose to the **** ones...
To be honest, there is no predicting this group of players. The worrying thing is that the last time we saw a comparable level of apparent complacency at this point in the season we ended up in League 1. The only ones I actually respect as Leeds are Byram, Lees and McCormack. I don't feel it means too much either way to the rest. I feel sorry for Redfearn, it's Warnock's "team" and he's been happy to leg it and leave someone else holding the baby, and Redfearn will still be there doing his real job wherever we end up. Whatever happens in the next few weeks, we need a complete overhaul to progress - the "3 quality players and we'll be fine" brigade are looking at a Leeds team I don't recognise.
to be honest I bought into that whole "3 decent players and we'll go far" mantra earlier in the season. Granted, we had Becchio and those three decent players would all be pacey wingers and tricky centre mids, but I still feel ashamed. I feel like I've had the wool pulled over my eyes by Warnock. Seems like in secret he was just telling his mates to get through the season and they'll all get their pay packet at the end of the week. Take it easy and don't put too much effort in, relax and have a good time. Just feels like he's guaranteed a final pay day for all his old mates. I reckon he'll start doing the same in his director of football role, will be advising Chris Powell to get Michael Brown and Paddy Kenny and Luke Varney in and give them 4 year contracts.
Oh I agree, we need more than three decent players but it would be a start, something to build on. The hardest thing has been done, getting rid of Bates. If GFH can stump up 2M for 2-3 new faces (maybe one very decent out of contract player) and assuming another player can come through the ranks as Byram has then this time next season we might be looking at being 1-2 players short of a serious promotion challenge.
Three players would stabilize things, nothing more. we're miles short of say Cardiff, miles. I wouldnt be assuming we will even hold on to the likes of Byram. Only a matter of time before he gets his head turned, probably by Howson again
Don't necessarily think 3 players would miraculously turn us into a promotion challenging team, but I don't think the players are really that awful. The style of football really isn't helping - I know they were Warnock singings, but Tonge and Green look much better when the ball is on the floor. Kenny and Ashdown are decent keepers. Stephen Warnock has been excellent since joining. Peltier, while ridiculously overpriced, has been decent (except at LB). Lees and Byram will continue to improve next year. Diouf is still handy, although does have a tendency to slow down attacks. McCormack is excellent, and with a new manager and a new philosophy, we may well see him flourish once more. I still have misgivings over White, I'm not really sure what his best position is, but he seems okay as cover for Warnock. Next year could be a pivotal season for Poleon, as well as Dawson and even Thompson, who looks like he's done as well as could be expected for Bury. Unfortunately, we have accumulated some dross, and we have been underwhelmed by a few players. Norris is too hit and miss, Austin has been poor since his injury and looks lethargic, Pearce hasn't been half the player we were expecting. Morison looks like he can score when he can be bothered, but selling Becchio now looks particularly stupid. Varney obviously has to go. I thought Drury was quite good when he played, no idea where comes into it now though. Hall must be wondering why he was signed, just like we wonder why he was. If we're not going to play him, he may as well leave. Habibou will return to his club because clearly he's not good enough either. There's no doubt we're lacking in several areas, but I really think the philosophy harmed the players too, to the point where they now seem completely devoid of confidence in their actual ability. A new manager with a new style will help to re-invigorate them, which is why we need to act early, get a few points on the board to make certain of survival and let the new guy formulate his own opinions on the squad (because I'm sure mine won't be shared by whoever comes in!). I'd like to see an experienced CB, creative midfielder, two wingers and a striker come in as the absolute minimum. Preferably two CBs and two strikers. Alas, we'll see.
Or firing squad? Seriously, he has to go. Could be cover for for Warnock, but my fear is that the next manager will be fooled by his pace & try him out in midfield again. And we all know that's not ging to work! Pace is not everything. Basic skills are far more important, and he's been found lacking so manytimes in midfield.
If he wasn't an academy product I'm convinced he wouldn't be here. For whatever reason, he never learnt the skills necessary to compliment his pace. He's looked far more competent at LB, but that's more to do with the fact he's been dire in midfield as opposed to being excellent at LB. I'd rather keep Drury as cover for Warnock to be honest, plus someone might give us some money for White. I'd normally like us to keep youth and encourage their development but I'm really not sure where he comes into it anymore so we'd probably be better off selling
