Sunderland Ladies have topped off a historic year for the club by winning four awards at the annual FA Women’s Awards at Wembley Stadium. The Lady Black Cats finished fourth in their inaugural FA WSL 1 campaign after being tipped for relegation, and these awards will no doubt round-off a fantastic season. Beth Mead was the main recipient as, despite missing out on the FA WSL Goal of the Season award which went to Ji So-Yun of Chelsea, she picked up the Vauxhall England Young Player of the Season trophy after a fans’ vote. She later went on to claim the FA WSL 1 Top Scorer award after netting 12 goals this season, before her final award came in the shape of FA WSL 1 Players’ Player of the Year. The hard-work of the club itself was also rewarded with Sunderland picking up the FA WSL 1 Club of the Year trophy for their excellent work on and off the field. On their official Twitter feed, Sunderland Ladies said: “We are so incredibly proud of Beth Mead winning a trio of awards at the FA Women’s Football awards. They added: “Club of the Year!!! Wow. Thank you to all of the fans for an amazing season. This one is for you #proud” Elsewhere, former Sunderland defender Lucy Bronze was announced as Vauxhall England Player of the Season after an impressive World Cup campaign while University of Sunderland graduate Jill Scott was presented with her 100th cap.
